Downpipe length? How much exhaust do i reeeeeally need?
Ok, i am trying to get my turbo project up and running this weekend, its an 89 Civic Si hb, nothing fancy just the 1.6 d series motor, using an hf manifold and a t25 turbo. My brother (70challenger) is helping me this weekend trying to get it to a point of running, and we have all the parts minus a downpipe. My question is this, i have the factory elbow coming off the t25, can i run the car like that? The stock elbow doesnt point in a direction that i can just attach an extention pipe to (it runs towards one of the frame pieces) eventually i will just have a custom downpipe made up by a local shop when i can get my hands on a t25 exhaust flange, but in the mean time will this hurt the turbo or my motor to run my setup this way? I know that on an N/A car you have to run a certain length of exhuast to keep the engine from sucking in cold air and warping the valves, is this the case wit the turbo? Can i just run with the factory elbow for now? Anything helps, thank you!

yeah man, i ran my setup forever with like a 6 inch downpipe and it sounded awesome, everyone said it sounded like bubbles or something, anyways the turbo spool was insane loud, louder than an 18 wheeler. just make sure you dont crank it up over any dead grass or leaves or youll have a crispy car.

With open downpipe you guys didn't have any problem with exhaust getting inside the car? Because I have an exhaust leak where the header meets the exhaust pipe and it leaks inside the car somewhere. It doesn't really smell too bad but if i drive my car for a while it hurts my throat Need to fix it one of these days :1
