Default Downpipe on Driver's or Passenger's............

I'm going to get my downpipe fabbed soon on my 98 Civic coupe and I want to retain A/C and I'm curious as to what side I run the DP off of. Should I have the hot side on the driver's side or on the passenger's side? How do most of you run it? I'm getting IC piping off a H-T guy and it's like a general fit and comes with an extra pipe to trim or add so that MAY play a role in the placement. I planned on running it on the passenger side that way it doesn't crossover to where the oil dump fitting is on the oil pan. Thanks!

ur best bet is to do a mock up on the car.... put the mani on and test fit the turbo.... more than likely you are going to have to clock the turbo one or both ways. it's just trial and error on how to do the set up.... but you'll get it. dont forget about all the other things that have to be ran like DP, chargepipes and oil lines. just sit back and visualize it

Normally if your going to try and keep AC, the downpipe would be easier to have fit on the pass. side. So the hot side is on the passenger side. But it really somes down to how much room you have to work with and where your manifold sits the turbo. Can you bolt your turbo up either way without any fitment issues? Some manifolds only alow it to be bolted up 1 way. That will be a dead givaway as to which side your downpipe is going to be.

I would think it would normally be on the driver's side because most people use a filter + pipe for the cold side of the turbo. If you decide to use a mesh screen of some sort on the cold side inlet, then I would have the downpipe on the passenger side; If you use a filter, depending on the manifold, then it will almost be impossible to use a pipe + filter on the drivers side because the A/C and P/S is in the way.

Hey thanks guys! I planned on the passenger side hot side set-up. Dad comes back from SC tomarrow so maybe I'll make him help me put on the mani and turbo. The mani is suppose to be A/C friendly. I have alreadly clocked the turbo so the outlet cold side points straight down. Now I need to mock it then clock the center so the oil dump is down. I have another question, too. I was going to buy a oil pan alreadly tapped. Is the placement going to mess with how I can run my downpipe or oil lines or anything? Is it like a standard certain place so it's universal or is it dependent on the car and set-up? Thanks!

I see most actually end up having the hot side on the driver's side. My Dad mentioned the whole "filter on the driver's side" thing to me before and so that's another thing I have to look for. I see your signature, any pics or links to your whip? Write-up perhaps? Thanks!

with the 14b and hf it was definitely easier to have it pass side, custom manifolds might change that a bit tho.

using a 14b with the hot side on pass. side, my downpipe off the factory o2 housing goes pretty much straight down. i just took the eclipse downpipe and cut the bends out of it, rewelded it.
