Default Downpipe Creation off OEM flange n bend... *PICS*

I basically wanna save some time and money and use a piece of the stock downpipe that was shipped with the turbo but dont know if it will work.

I just want to take the first 3 inches or so form when it comes off of the turbo and does the 90* or atleast part of it so I can retain the bung hole, but Im looking for a 3" downpipe as Im looking to make 300whp out of this D16 and is it possible to weld 3" material to the stock material?

What I want to to is cut right above the studs and get my buddy to weld on a little piece that finishes the downturn and then back under my oil pan

And then Ive got the problem of the wastegate hole, I could try and get my bud to weld is so its always closed and I suppose that works in theory but will it really be flush bit and stay that way?

Or should I just cut it off and weld it right onto the turbo..... will those metals weld together..?

----, you cant even see the little ****** in the pic, all black

I know there are some clashes on what metals weld together and hoping someone can give me some info

I didnt sleep tonight and Im gonna head over to my grandparents and bust out the heavy artilerry and fix my 2 problems today and Ill cut off this section of the downpipe just to see how it turns out, just trying to get as much out of the way as possibly before the install

Thanks

thats a borg warner/ihi turbo right? i have the same flange, ok this is what u can do, ive done this to 2 of those turbos so far and they have been run hard with no probs. to block the hole in the turbo you can weld the flaper to the turbo, then use an external wastegate, i have also cut out a quarter sized piece of pipe and that worked just fine. next on both turbos we cut that flange right after the turbo mating surface so all you have is a flange to weld to. you will also have to weld that tube closed after you remove the flaper. good luck, i know i suck at explaining things.

It's trickier to weld cast iron to mild steel. You should preheat the iron and use high nickel content wire and let it cool slowly. My recommendations would be to either weld the flapper shut and just bolt a flange to that stock o2 housing you have rather than welding one on, or else buy a t3 flange without a wastegate hole and make the entire downpipe yourself. Good luck.
