Re: Downpipe clearence need help

its pretty simple. jus dont use a huge ass looping u-bend kinda downpipe, jus make a dp that faces straight down kinda like

Re: Downpipe clearence need help

jus wrap it with heat wrap... or try to bend it a bit or smash it in a lil bit. wont hurt the flow that much. jus find exactly where its touching n smash it in a bit with a hammer... then wrap it with heat wrap a bit where it might touch.

Re: Downpipe clearence need help

alright that sounds good ill do a 1.5 straight down, smash it in, heat wrap it, then have the 1.5 welded into a 2.5, so it does look possible to put a dp without damaging the alternator

Re: Downpipe clearence need help

What about turning the turbo around? It looks like there might be plenty of clearance on the other side.

Sounds like your best bet right there. I'd stay away at all possible from "smashing it in" just use smaller piping so it's still smooth flowing. If you need heat wrap my Dad got me some from work. Fire blanket is what it is really. Alot of it. I can probably send you some if you pay shipping.

ahh if i read this about a minute before ordering a big roll from hamiltonmarine.com, ill try to go with the 1.5 and if it does touch the alternator ill have it banged a tiny bit and heat wrap it, also what do i use 2 hold the wrap just some regulat hose clamps?

Sorry. Uhhhh....yea I guess. Wrap it tight kinda like you would for an ankle wrap. Starting and layering over it, stretching, pulling tight, wraping down on an angle a little further down on the downpipe, repeat. Hose clamps on the ends I guess. I never did it, but it sounds savvy. Good luck and post in General Disscussion when it's done with some numbers. A Hyundai.....HMT has expanded.

I have an Acura Legend and dont have enough room for the dowpipe under the tranny so I am gonna just dump it out in front of the front wheel. Maybe you could do something similar.

Re: Downpipe clearence need help

Is that manifold off of the scoupe turbo? I have the same engine in my winter beater na scoupe.

chr1z 06-26-2005 07:35 AM

Re: Downpipe clearence need help

yea its the turbo scoupe manifold, the scoupes use the same 1.5L alpha motors, the turbo scoupe uses a t15 oil/water cooled around 115 hp at like 5 psi with oil sqirter pistons but the compression sucks .
