Saturday and Sunday

Right…

Firstly we needed to remove some bits off the front of the car to make things easier..

Off came the front bumper, radiator, slam panel, the intake and the exhaust manifold…

Then (mainly cause I wanted to do the interesting things first) I quickly test fitted the intercooler and some charge piping + the dump valve

Charge piping wouldn’t go around perfectly so its time to break out the angle grinder..

Next is a trial fit of the turbo and manifold to make sure it all lines up properly

Which it dosent……

Inlet housing isn’t clearing the block

…out comes the angle grinder again

Now it all sits in perfectly

Needed to ‘modify’ the bolts connecting the adapter flange (mason stop laughing) to the manifold

Cue angle grinder!

Pancake mouse got popular and I even had several people offer me money for it… even 2 people from the states wanted me to ship it over!

Unfortunately it ran away 

Started to bolt everything back together tightly needed some slight adjusting here and there…..

And how it stood until the next weekend…

Weekend arrives……

Time for the messy stuff, off comes the sump and a quick drive down to cowboys trucker friends to drill my sump as I didn’t have a drill bit big enough.

They even let me use their pressure washer to clean it… came up great

All put back together, had to trim the oil return line as it was a little too long, had I left it oil could have backed up into the turbo past the seals and made a lot of smoke…

So… I sit back for a moment… its done… it should now run…

Last few checks are made and I bolt up the down pipe I originally had… as you may be able to tell it doesn’t fit properly.

Starts at the first turn of the key, even though it ran like a bag of crap I was very happy…

Yay, now its running I need to sort that downpipe out….

So I book into prospeed the following Saturday. now you may notice that may radiator still hasn’t been fitted… this is due to the charge piping getting in its way, so a few weeks before hand I ordered a half sized radiator from a civic which would not only fit in, but being an aluminium duel core, give me better cooling.

Friday…

…arrives and radiator hasn’t arrived as id been promised… start to panic

…then I realise my brother (chesh_civic) owns a nice shiny civic…

Time to drive home…. Ran horribly but made it…

…just

Sunday (Even earlier) Morning

Accompanied by my fellow biatch (Ginge) we awake at 5:00 am, did intend to get up at 4 but I turned my alarm off by accident instead of pressing snooze... Grabbed some essentials like crisps, coke, sweets and a blanket for ginge to sleep with (-----). I didn’t bring any tools… at all.. which was very very stupid but my brain dosent work at that time in the morning.

We set off and get to Cardiff gate where I decide to check everything out and make sure theres no leak… just to put my mind at rest.

Look under the car, theres oil dripping from what looks like the oil return… not good, I ask the service station if they has a jack I could borrow, they didn’t… so I found a ramp onto a fairly high pavment…. It discover that yes the oil is leaking but its not half as bad as I thought… after some deliberation we decide to go for it and risk the rest of the 5 hour journey, I bought some oil at this point.

Every 20 minutes I pull onto the newly named (by Ginge) Crx Shoulder, to check over the car… surprisingly the oil had barely moved… and for the next 20 or so stops I only had to put about .5 of a litre of oil in. The next problem being my petrol, I was getting 40 miles to half a tank… (used to get 150 + before the conversion) im just hoping to myself the tuner can sort this out.

… lots of random ness and petrol later we arrive at the tuners in Lincoln, after a quick chat with Chris (tuner) he advises the oil leak isn’t something to worry that much about and we get started on the tuning.

Knock sensor, wideband and ecu plugged into the laptop via an ostrich emulator for some real time tuning.

Chris asks me to look at the laptop, and at idle my map sensor is showing boost and letting the injectors run a constant 80% duty cycle for the entire journey!
Long story short, we discover my dump valve is leaking and screwing my map sensor up at treat. Disconnect the vacum line from the dump valve and reconnect the lines back up to the inlet manifold and it runs perfect… at this point im getting mixed emotions, im happy that the car runs good now… but im not happy that this was the reason I used so much fuel and I could have easily saved £80 on petrol 

Street tuning is weird, when he first asked me to put my foot down I thought Christ this is quick… then he asked me to do it again and it felt a million times better, I couldn’t get over the difference this guy was making by pressing a few keys on the keyboard.

End of the tuning session, car runs like normal when cruising and uses the o2 sensors, and we have a nice, safe 11.5 afr on wide open throttle…

Took us 4 hours to get home, and £15 of petrol, I couldn’t believe the mpg on the motorway… it was better than before the conversion despite going from 240cc injectors to 440cc!!

Got a few little niggles at the moment but should be sorted soon.
