does a boosted engine or the turbo itself burn oil?
does a boosted engine or the turbo itself burn oil? I put in 4 1/4 quarts last saturday after instal and had to add 1/2 a quart just now. |
Re:does a boosted engine or the turbo itself burn oil?
If the seals on the turbo are bad it could possibly burn some and Most of my freinds have added about 5 quarts to compensate for the oil going thru the turbo.

Yes, they both do depending on condition.

Well let's take a factory turbocharged motor, brand new, off the showroom floor. No, they don't go thru any oil when they are brand new.
Now let's take a kit that was pieced together by someone who is not an automotive engineer (all of us). Placed on a higher milage car not designed for boost. Expect little leaks here and there man, gasket leaks, fitting leaks. If you didn't use a new turbo, possible for small seal leaks. Too much boost could also complicate problems. Is your PCV system in check? |

I've never replaced the pcv valve and the engine has 65k miles.

Yeah replacing the pcv or cleaning it with some brake cleaner couldnt hurt.
