Re: Digital EGT Unit *Came in Fast* With Pic Now
Sorry to thread jack a little, but are EGTs that important? I don't think I run my car hard enought to get "danger to manifold" and have washers fall out of my glove compartment.

EGTs can be very usefull. The readings from it can almost be read like reading an AFR gauge. Very usefull for tuning igntion vs fuel work also, heat changes depending on how on target or off the readings are.
Also... you only want to run so hot... so if you can monitor this... you can detect and fix and avoid problems later.

Ya, This week I'm going to try to mount it into an old o2 sensor. Just drill a hole through the center, seal it up with some mufler sealant or exhuast goop. Just to see if it works. Later I'm going to buy the proper one. and mount it properly into my new manifold when I make it.

^^^^ He's absolutely right. It is more for fine tuning for maximum HP. The leaner your afr is, the hotter egt is and the faster exhaust gases will exit your turbo = faster spool;l but you can only go so hot before things start to melt.

EGTs are good for when you don't have a realiable way of tuning your ignition tables. Too much retard and your EGT goes up, and too much advance, your EGT goes up.
If you're doing a "ballpark" estimate when working with timing, find a stop where the EGT doesn't climb very high (~1400 degrees F).
They're good to tell if you're running too rich/lean as well, but to me, a wideband is the only accurate way to do it.
