people hate on the 6.0l but if your not an idiot it really is a good motor, the more people learn about it the more power/reliability it has gotten. Head studs and updated gaskets do wonders, minws getting those in the spring and retuned :P

There are lots of places that deal just with diesel turbos. Garrett actually makes most of its money from the diesel side of things, gasoline turbos are just a 'me too' side-business for them. The seals in newer journal bearing turbos are typically piston-style, and to get at them you remove the comp wheel. That almost necesitates a rebalance, and its nothing even close to balancing a mower blade. :1
He could also get a new snail, as said turbo places usually just treat them like another part of the eninge and offer a decent core exchange.
