Default decided to keep my 1400

ive decided to keep the 1400cc pushrod, 8 valve, non crossflow engine in my renault 5 gt turbo.. i was going to replace it with a dohc 16v 1800 out of a clio 16v and turbo that, but ive decided to keep the little motor.. for a few reasons... the clio engine is heavy, and outside big-money clio cup cars the engine has been played with very little and is notoriously hard to get power from..

there is a tuning industry that has been built around the gt turbo in this country since 1985 when it was launched, and there isnt something that hasnt already been tried so we now know what works and what doesnt

a simple upgrade to 18psi of boost and a 135 carb main jet will see 190bhp... the most powerful road going gt turbo to date makes 354bhp@wheels.. not bad for something designed in the early sixties.. in france

now the weather is starting to get a little better i have regained the enthusiasm to get the project going again... im going to be running a T25/T3 turbo at 22psi of boost, along with my alloy intercooler, full stainless exhaust etc etc... this should be good for over 200bhp, which will keep me happy untill the bottom end goes, then i can build it for proper power..

Sorry wrong.

I have raced the ufficial renult sport R5GT turbo Group A car and in its maximum evolution made 180Hp not more. The 300 plus bhp you see on R5 is nice but very undrivable. The Renult clio has been devlopped by the factory as a race car and there are a lot of parts for it especially in France and Italy, the same engine but in 2000cc form made over 280bhp in N/A form, I know I have driven most of them in Rallies.
