Default Damn my mbc sucks ***....

well, I was curious if I can run a lil more boost yesturday and decided to make one of those home depot mbc. My stock wastegate is at 5psi, but I wanna get it about 7-8 tops. so I got all the fittings and a the ball bearing and the spring. hooked that ---- inline with my wastegate and drove hard on the streets it went to 7psi. I was like okay, cool. Whats fucked up about it is it's not consistant, sometimes it would overboost getting nearly 10psi maybe more if i hadn't let off the throttle. I dunno if my spring is weak or or that ball bearing doesn't work, but this ---- doesn't work. I know some of you out there use them all the time and probably did it right or somthin but mine was those ones off c-speed racing.

i use a bleeder style that i made. works great and never spikes like that. no moving parts also to stick and overboost either.

I used the ball and spring method, and it works great. My favorite part about the b+s is that it holds the gate shut until the very end-- faster spool.

Tell me how you did yours, maybe I can help you.

All parts that were purchased came from home depot:

-1 1/8th npt brass tee
-2 1/8th npt brass nipples (for pressure lines)
- one ball bearing (a 'bb' is too small!) and spring from a pen- preferably as close to the size of the inside of your tee as possible.
-look @ pictures for the rest, it requires a bit of creativity.

Parts:

cut nipple:

Throw out piece you cut off and thread hole (to the size of your bolt):

Assemble as so:

Goes together like this:

Now you have a home made manual boost controller. Use wisely.

how do you adjust those things anyways? which direction you turn to raise and lower boost? I want to run really low boost untill my piston ring brake in, I will set the wastegate to like 2 psi, and adjust up to 10 psi, how high can you adjust it with those? I got mine off ebay.

use the grainger valve from mcmaster, it's $7.00 for same basic ball/spring but it's meant for higher temps which will not deform the spring and create spikes

mine held what i want all rpm in all temps... -20 and like 35C

http://www.xmission.com/~dempsey/perform/grainger.htm

reason why this doens't spike and works better because of the nice strong brass housing, the stainless steel spring which can withstand temps up to 300C and the stainless ball which is good too...
