Default d16a6 minime vs 16z6

i have a d16a6. would i get more horses with swaping heads with a z6, or just to buy the whole a used d16z6 engine?
which engine has a stronger bottom end? my setup is going to get boosted.

If you put the z6 head on the a6 and it was perfectly tuned with the correct ECU it would have more HP than the z6. That doesnt mean its better for turbo though. The Mini-me will have alot higher compresson and pose more of a threat when tuning. Detonation can easily happen if not tuned right. I have done 2 mini-me setups, but I have some pretty good fuel/spark management.

Both bottom ends are equally as strong.

so i should only proceed to boosting the mini me if i have good fuel/spark management? is there an inexpensive(homemade) way to do this?

AFC hack with some large injectors. With a MSD BTM and you will probably be ok..

But thats not exactly cheap... Plus add a few hours on the dyno to get it tuned correctly.

Unless you're going to have really good fuel and spark management yes, just stick with the A6. With the upped compression in the Mini-Me you really need very good fuel/spark management or detonation happens a lot especially in a turbo application.

No... a6/a1/z6/b2/b7/y8 rods are all pretty much the same

d16a1 early (86-87) are a bit larger
