D15b7 good or no good

Hey guys just need some feed back on this motor. Its the stock motor in my eg civic. I want to boost it but everyone
keeps telling me that the block is week. I plan on running a t3/to4e with Dsm 450 cc on the afc hack. Maybe gonna run 7psi max. Is this motor capable of holding this power or do I need to swap to something else. I really dont want to swap, just want to use what I have.

Re: D15b7 good or no good

you dont need a t3/t4 for that little motor, and it will hold as long as you dont use the AFC and just get a chipped ecu.

+1 I personally love that little motor

Re: D15b7 good or no good

So no afc. Should I use the stock computer to get chipped or should I use something else. I got a Pm5 and a pr4 laying around here.

Re: D15b7 good or no good

Doesn't the DX models (D15B7) civics come with the P06? I can't remember... if so you can get that chipped.

Yes.

J-MAN 03-03-2008 05:34 PM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

yeah it has the p06, would just chip that if i were you

Re: D15b7 good or no good

First of all I would like to say do not use afc hack!

Just a basemap from Xenocron will be better than that.

D15b7 is a good little motor its cheap and easy to finda new one if you break it, and it will take 7 psi allday.

supposedly 180whp is the breaking point for the rods, which going from stock 70ish whp to 150-170whp is quite a difference

Don't underestimate the raw power. It comes with 90 horsepower stock O0

10 psi from a 14b ---- tune
raped for over 6 months
sold to a buddy still running strong over a year now

i think the t04e is too big
14b is perfect

DreaMer 03-04-2008 01:13 AM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

those numbers are at the crank, so give or take maybe 80whp? or less.....

Re: D15b7 good or no good

i used that same turbo on my d15b7 and it held up nicely, 7psi is great on that turbo. dont do 10 on it cuz that is where it will give out, i had full boost by 4000 rpm and pulled hard all the way to redline with a xenocron basemap.

E-b0la 03-04-2008 01:28 AM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

Just boost it and get another motor to build on the side.

J-MAN 03-04-2008 01:31 AM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

im gonna throw a z6 head onto a b7 bottom end and boost it and see how long it lasts

what kind of manifold / exhaust?

DreaMer 03-04-2008 09:02 AM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

I say the turbo is way to big for the motor, 4000 rpms and redlines at 6200? granted if your racing you'll never fall below 4k or shouldnt anyway but still. I say t25/t3

B7's are fine, you gotta start somewhere

The first setup in my sig was on a d15b7. raped it for like a year, sold it and now its getting boosted again!

Same here; my first setup was my boosted stock b7. It's a mpfi engine and easy as hell to turbo.

What do YOU know about anything being TUNED. :S

What happened to your first D15b7?

mgs2057 03-04-2008 10:46 PM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

yea my turbo was big for the motor but it dont matter any more it threw 2 rods. it had a mini ram horn from ebay. 2-1/2 downpipe with stock exhaust but it was only running a basemap.the turbo was ar60/ar5x or something like that cant remember but it was big.

Re: D15b7 good or no good

mine ran strong till i blew the head gasket outta it

CaVy9722 03-04-2008 10:57 PM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

had a t04e on my b7 and it boosted just fine ::) I pushed about 170whp with the stock motor and 185 with a minime. motor never blew and it had 200k miles on it. swapped in a z6 and put down 234whp//189wtq.

boost that bitch.

Re: D15b7 good or no good

mine has been running on a xeno basemap for over a year...only problem i had was a busted head gasket...now its running like a champ.

Re: D15b7 good or no good

b7 is a damn good little motor and like every one else said chip the ecu and get a wideband

RotaryGeek 03-06-2008 02:40 PM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

yeah the weak point isnt the block itself but the rods. but thats the same with most honda engines. just upgrade the rods and chip the ecu and you should have fun with it.

you forgot the d15b1--i think 72 hp???

i think a cool d build woud be a boosted y8 with the 4 speed tranny

themadhatter 03-06-2008 03:08 PM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

you can do a decent d15 build for little money nothing special but decent.
do a rebuild with
-totalseal rings
-nice metal head gasket
-a6 cam with y7 cam gear
-arp head studs or bots
and a hmt kit
should be a fun motor just keep it tuned right and don't go crazy with the boost

Its not really worth it to even open it up, even with a half assed hmt kit you should be capable of pushing the b7 to its limits, which seems to be the rods. and who'ever said "new rods" forget it unless you want to spend $700+ on a set of crower's because they are the only option you have for rods with a b7. Just give'r'hell untill somthing lets loose or you get bored then build a d16.

i agree. i had to think about it for a bit....z6 and y8...basically the same thing, and the z6 is obd-1 and cheaper, and easier to find, so yeah.......ill just keep to my b's haha

my reasoning was all about the timing differances.

Re: D15b7 good or no good

;D ;D the good old b7....i just bought a 92 cx with a d15b8...did a minime on it...and ive tought about turboing it...but those rods are scarry thin....

TurbodEG 03-13-2008 10:05 AM

Re: D15b7 good or no good

i had a d15b7 with like 200k miles and put a t3/t4 57 trim turbo on it with a hotrex manifold a couple years back...ran that bitch at 10psi every day and raped the ---- out of it with an fmu and missing link...held together for a good amount of time until it was stolen

Re: D15b7 good or no good

how would the d15b7 compare to a d16b2?
