Curious if you've a side by side comparison... i did a quick check before assembly by putting the stock z6 piston next to the vitara piston and using the pin/bushing to hold them at the exact same level... the difference was barely noticable.

And to the people that comment about how the combustion process happends in the cylinder because of the piston... i found a nice dark black ring in my cylinders from the stock pistons... i'd expect the exact same thing to happen with the Vitaras.
Yeah but barely noticeable may be 2-3mm which is a lot. I was going to go with vitaras but decided that there was no way I'd get the proper piston to wall clearance with them.

There is something to be said for machining your bores to match the pistons you run. It's common practice in some circles.

.020 ~.5 mm.

.25 mm o/s Vitara's in a good stock bore would drop in with minor honing.

Search Dseries.org or HT. You can find loads of info on those two sites alone.

I will post some pictures this weekend of a Z6 and a D15B rod/piton side by side. The rods are identical both the bearing bore size, length, thicknes and even the stampings. The wrist pin location is identical as well. The difference is the actual size of the D15B piston from skirt to top. Basicaly its shorter. The bottom oil rings line up almost perfect but as you get to the top rings is where it differes and the overall heigth of the piston itself. D15B piston is shorter. I put a Z6 rod/piton into my D15B block and bolted it down. The piston sticks out 2-3mm from the deck. Vitaras WILL fit no prob that I am sure of.

Japanese pistons come in .25 mm increments.

Aftermarket clones, for a fraction of the price, might come in some other format.

So, is it best to stick with the 01-03 gx pistons, to have to the correct compression height?
