Ya, it's a MAF.
What a lot (Not that there are a lot of Toyota anything projects) of "better" built Toyota's have been doing over the last 10-15 years, is trying to squeek out boost on the stock fuel systems.
You're basically betting the fact that most late model >4c are sometimes tuned sub 11's from the factory & the stronger than average pistons against leaning out & overheating them.

It's just not a good idea...

dusty it's still not a good idea to add boost without *some* form of descent management. You need something. Prefferably: a piggyback capable of retarding ignition with boost+MAF/extra injector control. Along with a FPR.

avo uses extra injectors and high flowing fuel pump and ignition controller. i thinks its retarted to boost a landcruiser with no management.

Fellas I would love to put a unichip or some other piggyback on this project-but I am low in funds. I plan on keeping the boost low at first. I will put a new fuel pump on her for starters. many on the www.Ih8mud.com forum replace the landcruiser in-tank fuel pump with a supra unit with their forced induction with good results. My next upgrade will be the boost controlled fuel pressure regulator. I have 3 months left in my medical residency and then will be a full blown MD and will start making lots of money so I can fix this right BUT I CANT WAIT. I run around this hospital all day trying to help keep loosers alive and to keep my sanity I daydream about cars-especially mine. Yesterday I had to do several PAP smears in the low income medical clinic-these were some nasty PAPS. I just put it out of my mind, breathed through my mouth, and did the paps but the whole time I thought about the turbo install. I have built this turbo a thousand times in my mind. I have been reading all year about it. Last night I was out in my garrage tearing apart the front of my cruiser till 1am in preparation for the intercooler instal. I will post some cool pics within the next couple weeks when I have all parts in and start the marathgon build. You may say "don't do it till you can do it right". To which I say, I don't give a damn if I burn her to the ground. These projects are my sanity. People life is in the journey. So enough of that

Question
Is there antything wrong with using a divided flange turbine if I am not goung to divide the exhaust pulse. I ask because the turbos I am looking at now (t04b .60 cold side 1.0-1.15 hot side) almost all have divided flanges.

"maximum boost" uses a chart for referencing the needed internal flow area of a intercooler based on the CFM the engine will be flowing. (including additional flow from boost) My motor at 4000 rpms and running 6 psi moves 359cfm and when referencing the chart indicates I need 17 square inches of flow area. So remember flow area equals the thickness of the intercooler core times the height (longer length coolers are great because they let the air travel a longer distance so more heat exchange takes place but the length doesn't contribute to flow area---flow area is the area perpindicular to the air flow)

So if I pretend an intercooler is 3 inches thick the cooler should be 17/3=12.6 inches tall. this is significant. 359cfm=25lbs/min. if we use hp=(lbs/min x10) then my motor should be making about 250hp at 4000 rpm with 6 psi-which sounds about right. So by the maximum boost calculation I need an intercooler with an air contact surface area equal to over twice that offered by all these 2.5" x 6" intercoolers on ebay so that I can make a mere 250hp. Yet all these ebay coolers clain they can efficiently flow 400hp. So what gives? Again I have no experience
