Default custom project (snowmobile)

I have a mach z drag sled witch is set up as a pro stock 1000. I want to try and turbocharger this engine or maybe a smaller 800cc (triple).

But I have a few questions to try and understand if this will even work. I think you can buy a kit for sleds, but the turbo is a small turbo and it is fully enclosed with no water or oil recirculation I don’t know but I think I want to stay away from that.

Is there a turbo with just a water coolant system, because I can use the coolant system from the sled motor, but I don’t know how I would use the oil one, maybe an electric oil pump or something? But weight is a factor so, I don’t know.

And How does and fmu work is there any way for me to hook up some kind of and fmu and my sled motor?

One more, How can I figure out what size of turbo would work since this isn’t very popular.

I will appreciate any info or advice.

umm PM Whitey, hes in the middle of turboing a banshee fourwheeler and could tell you a little more about turboing a 2 stroke, personally I have toyed with the idea and for the oil problem all i have come up with is the idea of using a transmission oil cooler and a small pump, no resevoir just the cooler and pump. mount the cooler on the hood of the sled and it will have more than enough air flow to work for keeping the turbo cool

if its easy for you than hook up teh water cooling as well, it wont hurt to use, eventhough the turbo will run without it

I have looked at some of the small 4 stroke sleds that come stock with a turbo and they have a pretty cool system, but those turbos would eb way too small for you a t25 or a 14b turbo would be pretty good for your needs

So a turbo must have an oil line, but it dosnt need a water line?
Is there any way I could just use the water line?
I thought you could do something to bypass the oil line and just use water?

umm.... ive heard of it but never actually seen it done, even if you could pull it off, i wouldnt bother, water doesnt lubricate the bearings

why not just run a small oil pump asnd cooler? thats like 2 pounds max, if weight is that much of a issue with your sled just stop eating fast food for a week before you have a race, that will more than compensate for the 2 pounds of oil

plus teh power you will gain from a turbo will more than make up for an extra 2 pounds

i just wouldnt risk blowing a turbo for a small 2 pounds

A turbo needs oil, it doesn't need coolant. Is this a 2 or 4 stroke?

I undertand what your saying. I was thinking about an oil pump of a 350 chevy or something and there kinda big I would guess one would weight 15-20 lbs maybe.
What are you guys thinking of that weights 2 pounds?

The way I figure it I got two options:
1) Some how rig up an oil pump to run of the gear where the original oil pump for the oil injection is.
2) or use an elecrtic pump and run it off the mag, I dont know if it woul produce enough volts or amps or whatever.

What do you guys think?

Oh anyone know how much oil flow is required for any average turbo?

your average turbo needs like 10-30 psi of oil pressure.

small electric pump will do the trick as well, i woudl go small electric myself
