Default CRX Zc turbo project. My first turboproject, its done !!! LOTS LOTS of pics

hi,

I finally finished my turbo project. My first HMT ! Although i didn't drive it for more than a few weeks, it was great to build and i learned allot from it. Although it was kinda $$$....student buget .
Did have some problems when it was finished which i will discuss later on, like running way to much boost, oil problems etc.

Never the less, its a Euro crx, D16Z5 (2nd gen zc) engine with the following mods

Engine:
TD04 Turbo from a 3000gt (spools like crazy)
Adjusted wastegate actuator from a ramvan
HF manifold.
Homemade adapter plate
Homemade downpipe
TurboXS RFL Bov
Starion intercooler
DSM 450cc injectors
NGK colder spark plugs
2" mandell bend chargepipes
Samco hoses
Front to end open exaust with megan racing muffler (pretty quiet)
Golden eagle vaccuum block
Stealthmode oil line kit
Stealthmode firewall kit
Fidanza 7lbs flywheel
Specclutch Stage 3 race clutch
Homemade oil catch can
Chipped PM6 Ecu (turbo-edit)
Walbro 255lph fuelpump
Sandwich plate for oil supply

other

Zeitronix ZT2 kit
AEM/ZT boost sensor
Pocketlogger ZT kit (with palm V)
Strutbars upper/lower/front/rear.
Whitehooker bucket seats
Auto-meter boost guage
Auto-meter oil pressure guage
Auto-meter oil temp guage
polyutherane moter mount inserts

AND LOTS MORE that i cannot remember

Oke. this is how it was....starting from here, only some mild modifications were done and i had the complete turbokit prefabbed so it took me only 3 hours to get it running again (its my daily driver so...)

Oke, before i begun....just did some shopping to make sure i had plenty of everything , Oil (not only for my car), clamps, and very important.....Brake disk cleaner...cleans EVERYTHING..its the magic stuff

Next, the adapter plate: i got myself 2 pieces of 10mm steal, bored the holes and tapped it. Then we welded it together and did some finishing toughes. Voila, one adapter plate

Manifold with turbo

Next i made myself a nice oil pan, bored the hole, welded a nut on it and to make sure it was oil tight i used some JB weld.

to make it look a bit nicer (and prevent rust) i painted it black

next thing....put it under the car. I did this about 3 months before i actually installed the turbokit so i got myself a plug to seal the hole in the oil pan

Also, i got wrid of the cat converter and mufflers a long time ago. Just using a bomb style rear muffler thats amazingly quiet...untill you step on it

Next thing to do for me was the chargepiping. I did't want to cut much on my car, and i didn't want to replace the accu. So this is the result: 2"mandrell bend with a rewelded starion intercooler

rewelded intercooler

And offcourse the chargepipes were painted...nice and black !

Time to mount everything. I had all the guages, vaccuum lines and oil lines prefabbed so i just had to hook it all up. Used a Goldeneagle vaccuum block in stead of a bunch of T-pieces

When i wanted to install the turbo, i encounterd a problem. The water supply had M10x1.25 thread, couldn't find any nipple that fitted so we had to make my own. we took a M10x1.25 bolt, tapped a hole in it, saw off the nut, grinded it a bit...voila.

Just had a few little problems when starting it the first time, a little oil leak but that was it.

When driving we did have a problem. when i looked on the boost guage i was stunned to see that i was pushing OVER 12psi (at just 5000rpm). So the wastegate wasn't really a 8psi wastegate. I got myself another one, i opened it and changed the springs. Worked great

did you by any chance get oil on the clutch or flywheel and forget to wipe it off? but looks nice seems like you had all the tools to help you out in those situations where you would have had to wait another day if you didnt. good job

No I changed the clutch about 8 months ago. the original was already worn out so with the idea of going turbo...i installed a spec.

Never the less, i just invested in a good set of facom tools, http://www.toolbox37.com/acatalog/JET.7GXL_p.JPG Just about everything there is to get in the automotive business. Just sold my Co meter since i didn't use it much.

This was all done without a working bench (haven't got the room for it, only the roller cabinet) on a small driveway (just enough room for 1 car and 2 bikes).
Im used to it :P
