Re:cleaning up turbo and manifold
I don't know about cleaning.. but as for gaskets.. each side of the adapter plate should be formatted for each device, the turbo, and the manifold.
I used the gasket that was between my turbo and the manifold of the donor car for the turbo side, and a custom gasket made from "gasket composite material" from O'Reilly's for the HF manifold to the adapter plate. I did buy the original OE gasket but it was really thick.. and metal, and didn't look like it would seal correctly.
If someone has used the OE metal gasket on an adapter plate, how did it work out? Too thick? Work good? If it's working good, I'll use it instead.

well, the best thing to use to clean your manifold with is a sand or bead blaster. but if you don't have access to one use a wire brush and electric spiny thing.
cleaning the turbo without taking it apart is a bad idea. getting ---- in the fins is bad. you can use a wire brush on the outside of the compressor. thats what i did. mine looks real good.
as for the gasket, if you have an HF or STD manifold you should use the metal gasket that came with it. or you could buy a replacement at a parts store or something.
