Cleaning turbo...
How would I go about cleaning it? Bought a 14b from a guy locally. I dont suppose spraying it with water would be a good idea? A few Q's: Whats the big round thing stuck to the turbo in the pic? And there was some oil around the turbine. That bad? Im gonna try take it apart later to clean it up and check out the inside.

Re:Cleaning turbo...
the big round thing is the internal wastegate... I usually just clean with solvent/brake cleaner on the outside.. I do not know about internal cleaning

Re:Cleaning turbo...
Dont wanna drive to get it beaded :P Anyways I just used a old shirt and some Simple Green. Got some 800 grit sand paper and sanded it a bit as well. Pics of the exhaust housing too. I didnt bother to clean that.

Re:Cleaning turbo...
curious on what size adapter is leading to that -an 4 fitting?
turbo looks good, and that is a pretty normal crack on the wastegate housing.. Take off the o2 housing and inspect the wastegate flapper section for any others. Jeff |
Re:Cleaning turbo...
K will do later this week. Thx Jeff.
*edit* Also should I use the 02 housing? Or just crack it off? |
Re:Cleaning turbo...
mmm, looks pretty good.
|
Re:Cleaning turbo...
i duno the makeup of the cast iron mitshibishi used on there exhaust side housing. but its SHITTY
every single ones cracks. |
Re:Cleaning turbo...
Well, the wastegate is what conrols how much boost you run, so i wouldnt rip it off, unless you were to run an external wastegate.
|
Re:Cleaning turbo...
Damn freaking bolt was a bitch to get off. Took almost 20 mins for 1 bolt. Had to put it aginst the wall in a hallway and use my legs. Anyways pics.
Flapper dont completely cover the hole. Bad? http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...9/fc9522b3.jpg Two cracks. I'll assume thats bad. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...e/fc9522a8.jpg Should I get a external wastegate? |
Re:Cleaning turbo...
do that.
I'm getting a An External gate from an audi ;D Some KKK turbo's came with an external gate. |
Re:Cleaning turbo...
bah, those are normal.. consider that boost control, lol
you may boost a bit under 8psi with the stock actuator like that. Jeff |
