DO you have a picture of that turbo you could post? And you wouldn't happen to know the A.R of the turbo would you?

What are your plans for fuel management?

Re:Civic turbo help

Yeah, I have pictures of the turbo, I'm new at this post, so I dont know how or even if i could post em. The A.R. number is A.R. .60 M11 and on the hot side the A.R. is A.R. .63 I have plans for fuel management too, I have already B&M fuel press. reg., aem fuel rail, dsm 1st gen turbo injectors (450??)and im gettin a Holley 97GPH electric fuel pump...please give me all the advice and help ya can, I'm pretty well rounded for knowing my D16Y engine, but turbo is a whole new universe to me

Re:Civic turbo help

That seems a little big if you ask me.It will boost, but way at the top end.If i were you I would put that thing on ebay and with the money you make off it get a 42/48 t3.If you have a junk yard near by try to find a t3 off a 80s model Saab 900 or anny 80s Volvo. Those are perfect for a d16.

Re:Civic turbo help

i would stay away from the B&M FPR, it makes my fuel pressure bounce at 45psi no matter what is going on.

Re:Civic turbo help

I think the turbo is a good size, but I didn't see any way of manageing those injectors. ???

Re:Civic turbo help

your going to need a vafc or something of the like. Go with a 42/48 turbo as they said, you can keep that manifold and make good top end with not a great deal of lag

BlackLabelBoardr 01-03-2004 11:01 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

Should I got with the AEM FPR since its a better FPR and its a direct bolt on to the AEM fuel rail? And about the injectors, I dont understand what you mean about manageing the injectors? Im getting a new fuel pump, i have a FPR, hi-flow fuel rail, and im getting resistor boxes for the injectors, and after i collect all my pieces, I will be investing money into getting a hondata EMS...

Dr.Boost 01-03-2004 11:04 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

All that other stuff is worthless unless you have something to control the injectors. You can't run boost without it. Until you get the Hondata installed with some large injectors, you can't run boost. I'm not sure if you know this already. It sounded like you were planning on running boost with just a pump and a fuel rail. Just making sure you are on the right track, but it sounds like you might be with the Hondata. :)

Re:Civic turbo help

Oh I have injectors, they are 450cc (i think) out of a first gen eclipse...I read that those work perfect for civics, but if im wrong, whats a good injector to get?

Dr.Boost 01-04-2004 12:07 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

Yes they work good for AFC or Hondata.

Re:Civic turbo help

what he is trying to tell you is that you cant just run the dsm injectors alone with the fuel pump, you need something like the vafc/safc,or hondata, along with your setup to tune the rate of the injectors, because alone they will be pumping too much fuel at once. as they always say make sure you fully understand before you start installation.

Re:Civic turbo help

Ok, i think i got it now...to ru the injectors and the larger flow of fuel Im going to need an AFC and some kind of EMS (Hondata which I'm planning on getting). So heres what I got so far, and planning to get, any info or suggestions would be great..
- Garrett T3 Turbo
- DX Exhaust manifold with T3 flange welded on
- 32 inch front mount IC
- 1st gen eclipse turbo 450cc injectors
- HKS SS BOV
- Oil Lines (package i bought from aptturbo)

stuff I'm planning on buying:
- Apexi (SAFC or VAFC? i have a SOHC VTEC so which one is best)
- Hondata
- Holley Fuel Pump

Dr.Boost 01-04-2004 01:55 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

You don't need an AFC if you are getting Hondata or vise versa. They are both able to control the injectors by themsleves. The Hondata would be my choice if you have the money. Yes, you are correct, but you only need one of them.

Re:Civic turbo help

Would it be better to get a full EMS like hondata since I am going turbo? Or could i get away with using an AFC? Because alot of people I have talked to that have turbo said i am going to need an EMS, but if i can use an AFC instead, i'll do that...

Dr.Boost 01-04-2004 02:08 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

Oh hell yes. You can use an AFC and some DSM 450cc injectors and boost 10psi all day long. It's not as good as a Hondata system, but it's one of my favoite methods of fuel management, plus it's cheap. :)

Dr.Boost 01-04-2004 02:31 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

You could get the one airtonics just got for cheap.
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/lm1.php

Re:Civic turbo help

Just the sensor, I need a wide ban? for my a/f gauge and to put in my turbo

Dr.Boost 01-04-2004 02:46 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

Well, you don't NEED a wideband, but they are the best tool to use for tuning. You're going to use the sensor with an Autometer A/F gauge? I don't think they work well like that. I think you need to buy another part to make it work correctly with that gauge.

Re:Civic turbo help

widebands are great, but i'm not sure you're at the point where you need it yet, get an AFC and get the car boosted and then worry about wideband, if it comes down to it you can go to a local dyno and use their wideband + get some dyno time. I suggest you read through the FAQ at the top of this forum, and spend some time reading in the forums on this board (esp the engine management forum) you're on the right track though.

BTW, you need a resistor box or inline resistors for your DSM 450c injectors, check out the FAQ for an install how-to

BlackLabelBoardr 01-05-2004 11:48 PM

Re:Civic turbo help

Yea, i know about the resistor boxes for the injectors because of impeadence and engine check lights....

Re:Civic turbo help

you'll learn a lot reading the faq
