Default civic manifold question

ok, so you know those manifolds that have the cat before the down pipe? y7's i think... well, can i cut the cat and weld a flange on to it?

seems like more of a pita than just getting std/hf manifold and making a plate. at least that way it's bolted on instead of welded to cast and risking it breaking apart. got my manifold for 15 bucks.
