You buy the "exact same" turbo from the same supplier, two weeks apart, and it looks the same from the outside but there is a massive difference in the size of the compressor wheel.

I like everything about JFK88 or whatever his screenname is @ SF EXCEPT his standing by china turbos, in all other respects he's intelligent and shows some brass. He's been real lucky with one unit, sure, but literally every last one I see is either already bad before 500 miles or seems like it's good until you reach into the compressor and feel the massive thrust play signaling impending failure. I'm a ------- cheapass who will rig or bypass ---- on his own car far more than most people, but I wouldn't have one of those things on my car. China turbos are a great way to flush all your time effort and money down the shitter when the compressor wheel consumes itself and sprays metal shards into your engine.

Classic.

Don't wild guess it once it'S blown, it's more expensive to fix any turbo, chinese or not.
It's possible to make those chinese t3/t4 just as good and reliable as real garrett turbos by replacing the center section, backplate and all the internals including the thrust plate and collar by Genuine garrett components and straighten the shaft, rebalance the rotating assembly properly and that way all their weaknesses are addressed and they are good to go. just don't pick the saddly popular model with the stupid tiny t04e 40 trim compressor wheel on a stage3 .63 hot side!! Make sure you get the REAL t04e 50 or 57 trim (measuring respectively 53.9 & 56.6 mm) and you're good to go. Harder to find, their stg3 T04B's V trim are also full of potential once upgraded with Garrett guts. I have a customer running a pair of them on a mustang 5.0L. They perform amazing and are still lasting after a second season at the track. The two new ebay turbos + the garrett upgrade was still cheaper than getting new, or reman genuine garrett turbos.

I have been running this ebay trash with 0 problems since last december/january. Very very tiny side to side shaft play, nothing abnormal. Never smoked and boost like new all the time. I have never used turbo timer on this. I think that the oil feed line and drain play a big part in this turbo's longetivity.

I have run my ching chang turbo too for 2 years 1 year daily driven atleast 30miles a day. This is all with no air filter, a 1/16 homemade oil restrictor on 15psi and i still have barley have any shaft play. This is my 3rd setup with cdm turbos and i will keep rocking them till one explodes on me and destorys my engine, hopefully that never happens :8
