check engine light came on? (#43 O2 sensor)

Ok ,the first time it came on I just got out of a boost in 1st gear, I turned off the engine and restarted it and it went away, today I was out on the highway cruising about 65-70 and the light came on, and then again coing back from church on the highway it came on again, not under any boost. Any ideas. I'm running...d16, t25, afc, 450, running very rich lo-34% and hi -35%. I'm taking it over to get it tuned on wednesday, about 1 1/2 hr (highway driving), do you think it's safe to drive over there, or should I find a trailer?

sounds like an oxygen sensor, mine does the same thing... but mines not hooked up...

Re:check engine light came on???

It's a brand new O2 sensor. I have an OBD-1 right? not a OBD-2.

Can you get the code for us?

Re:check engine light came on???

Yeah, you should have really gotten the code scanned before posting on this one, will help everyone in the troubleshooting process. Your car is OBD1, right?

I got money saying its the map sensor.. Does the car run like ---- when the CEL triggers? But then when you turn the car off and start it back up its fine?

Retrive your code and post it up

i'm gonna check and find out how to get the code. I have a service manual that I'll check out...then post.......................
I can't find it, where the heck is the code part in the service manual???

Re:check engine light came on???

just post what # code youre getting, alot of people on here know them by heart
edit: under the passenger side carpet at the glove box youll find your ecu and you have to jump out the small plug thats hanging there with a paper clip or something and then turn the ignition to "on" and count the # of times the cel blinks

Re:check engine light came on???

Best to read up on it, expect a different series of dashes.

Re:check engine light came on???

jump (connect) the service plug (or whatever it's called) with a short piece of wire or paper clip, then turn the ignition to the 'acc.' position, you cel will start flashing, long flashes represent 10's, and short flashes represent 1's, if you're throwing more than one code, there will be a long(er) pause between the next set of flashes. i.e., two long flashes =20, then 4 short flashes =4, that would mean code 24, which i believe is the ks or some ----. if we knew the code, we could tell you how to fix it, it coule be 100+ different things, but for some reason i'm feeling the map sensor or o2 too.

Re:check engine light came on???

ok I got #3 manifold absolute pressure (map sensor) and #43 Fuel supply system. Is this ok to drive on the highway to the dyno 1.5 hrs, or should I find a trailer? I know how to reset the ecu, but what should I do about my codes. do you think the tuning will take car of that problem?

Re:check engine light came on? (got the codes now)

read this thread. You might find what TurboEF9 (Jason) says to be interesting considering your code 3 (MAP).

Re:check engine light came on? (got the codes now)

ok, I reset my ECU, and called an import dyno and they told me that the MAP sensor code was probably caused by having my settings too lean on the highway(that's when it came on)so my car was reading too much vacum pressure. They mentioned something about a missing link, but I didn't think that I needed that. As for the fuel code, I think that was caused by too lean and I boosted to 8 psi and then it started running like crap and almost died on me. I read the thread about the map sensor, but didn't help much.

I thought the equations TurboEF9 wrote might have gave you some insight to the problem.

Re:check engine light came on? (new code)

ok, went out on the highway after I made it even richer and code #43 fuel supply system came on. Any Ideas, probably just needs tuned. So....should I trailer it or drive it to the dyno?

Re:check engine light came on? (got the codes now)

richer. meaning you changed from -34/-35 to -33/-32 ?

Probably needs to be tuned w/ a wideband.

Re:check engine light came on? (code #43 fuel system code!!!)

i'm getting it done tomrrow ;)....but!!! Is it safe to drive on the highway at like 55-60mph when the fuel system check engine light is coming on? If comes on every time I get on the highway for about 2 mins then it comes on...why? I'm running WAYYYY rich, like -33 and sometimes -30% when I'm cruising. I just found out it's my O2 sensor, but it's a brand new O2 sensor...any ideas...
