Cheap Turbo Build on 95 GSR
I want to build a budget turbo for my Integra GSR.
I was wondering if I can do it without the intercooler. How unreliable will this be? What are the chances of detonation? I live in the central valley, an hour away from Sacramento, CA and I can't find any cheap turbos off of any cars. Our junk yards have nothing. My budget is in the area of $200. Anyone have any ideas of where I can get a cheap 14B or anything else that's good? All the turbos on Craigslist and eBay cost over $100. |
ok guys,enough

Yeah, what is up with all the hate?
I'm asking legit questions. I've been lurking for a while and can see some people have done setups for under $200. |
with a $200 limit, id say save up. Thats way to short in cash to fully put together a complete turbo system. the turbo itself is just a small part of what you would need to fully run it. I mean I know integra turbo kits are cheap but i can pretty much promise you, you wont find one for that price. Sorry to say man. Ive invested a good $4,000 into my kit if not more. Keep saving

I'm looking to do a junk yard turbo not a big Garret custom set up. |
I agree with canonman the more money the better even if its just $100-$200 more I would keep saving. You would be happier with yourself in the future if you saved a little more because there are alot more parts to a fully runnable kit then just the turbo.
As for running it without an intercooler.. your looking at maybe 3-5psi boost. Beyond that you will start to cause serious damage to your turbo and most of the time your engine (watched a motor blow up in my face for running 6psi n/i). Running an intercooler is not only much safer, if you drove a n/i and then an intercooled car I promise you would notice the difference. |

Thanks for the help.

Ive seen more than a few builds non-intercooled running 8-10psi with proper tuning. Dont worry about your turbo being damaged, that wouldnt have anything to do with your turbo living.

Seen a Garrett turbo TD04 or something rather for $40. That's a start.
Sidemount intercooler, home depot piping, wastegate, bov, oil feed and injectors should run pretty cheap at a junkyard. |
get everything turbo related off of a dsm you may be able to find it with your budget but dont exspect for it to run good or long at all... i put around a G in my turbo setup and its a parted together bastard child that just happened to work...so keep saving... and have fun

well i can start by saying i officially put together a kit for under $500 with a legit turbo (from a buddy) and the rest is ebay stuff o ya except my wastegate is not cheap i had it from my 98 gsr turbo build :) (she runs sooo nice ) $200 is a start and you can just start buying stuff part by part and soon enough you will be ready to install and tune. my kit has a cast manifold local shop (mandrel bend) DP intercooler turbo wastegate blow off valve oil feed and drain and a restrictor plate for feed line and sandwich for tap in back of block at oil pressure sensor piping i got from a friend and a vortec FPR for now. in two weeks i will have a Greddy proc spec B boost controler and AEM FIC and wideband A/F i already have a spoon chipped(legit no ebay crap) ECU hat was a pretty penny. this all is going in my OBD0 90 teg :) so a cheap kit is possible but like they all said its comes far a few in between ma man. i would scavenge craigslist all over te country and see if people will accept pay pal or somehing. GOOD LUCK ma man i will post pics of my ride once i start the install and tune

if your are looking at spending the least amount of money possible, i would say to look into getting atleast a side mount intercooler off of and eclipse/talon. or even the twin turbo cars like a 300zx or 3000gt vr-4. i have seen them for as cheap as $50. just a suggestion. good luck with your build.
