CDM Wastegates???

How reliable are they? I don't want to put one on my car if the risk of it not functioning properly and blowing up my motor is relatively high and I also don't want it to stay open at low boost either

Can I just put a legit spring in them and they will function like the wastegate that they knock off or am I just better off buying the real deal?

If you put one on your car you run more of a risk of blowing your engine due to overboosting than running a name brand, that is obvious. Many people use them though without problems. Swapping out with a "legit" spring won't change anything.

If you can afford it, always buy a name brand over a CDM wastegate, since it's such an important piece of the turbo setup and can blow your motor if it fails.

Boost cut makes cdm waste more trust worthy.

If you buy a CDM, open it up and check out the diaphram... other than that it's up to the CDM Gods for it not to fail.

Re: CDM Wastegates???

i had one and only had one problem with it in 6 months of raping my car.
i was racing an sti on the freeway and after i beat him he wanted to run again. so we lined up and my car sounded like my exhaust broke. it sounded like i was running open downpipe.
i figured who gives a ----, open dp will give me more power. we dropped gear and i didn't build boost. my cdm waste gate was stuck open.
that's the only problem i ever had.
next time i'm gonna get a used name brand one or maybe a new namebrand. depends on my job and cash flow.

I have a cdm xs power 38mm gate on my sled. I haven't had any problems out of it. I bought a backup just incase(I also have a backup set of ycp vitaras). Just think you can buy 5 cdm gates for the cost of one name brand gate, set up boost cut or mount your boost gauge where you can see it...

Just check it with an air crompresser before you put it on the car. I bought one with a "6psi" spring but when i put a regulator and air to it. it opened at 15 psi. >:( So just check it. Or find a tard with a turbonetics evolution gate and buy it for 40$ like i did ;D
