CDM Wastegates???
How reliable are they? I don't want to put one on my car if the risk of it not functioning properly and blowing up my motor is relatively high and I also don't want it to stay open at low boost either
Can I just put a legit spring in them and they will function like the wastegate that they knock off or am I just better off buying the real deal? |
Re: CDM Wastegates???
If you put one on your car you run more of a risk of blowing your engine due to overboosting than running a name brand, that is obvious. Many people use them though without problems. Swapping out with a "legit" spring won't change anything.
If you can afford it, always buy a name brand over a CDM wastegate, since it's such an important piece of the turbo setup and can blow your motor if it fails. |
Re: CDM Wastegates???
I have one and it works fine
But I would buy the tial if I wasn't so poor |
Re: CDM Wastegates???
my cdm works fine.... and if you are geting your ---- tuned, boost cut is a real cool feature that keeps ya from blowing your ---- up.... ;) look in to it :4

Re: CDM Wastegates???
If you buy a CDM, open it up and check out the diaphram... other than that it's up to the CDM Gods for it not to fail.

Re: CDM Wastegates???
i had one and only had one problem with it in 6 months of raping my car.
i was racing an sti on the freeway and after i beat him he wanted to run again. so we lined up and my car sounded like my exhaust broke. it sounded like i was running open downpipe. i figured who gives a ----, open dp will give me more power. we dropped gear and i didn't build boost. my cdm waste gate was stuck open. that's the only problem i ever had. next time i'm gonna get a used name brand one or maybe a new namebrand. depends on my job and cash flow. |
Re: CDM Wastegates???
I have a cdm xs power 38mm gate on my sled. I haven't had any problems out of it. I bought a backup just incase(I also have a backup set of ycp vitaras). Just think you can buy 5 cdm gates for the cost of one name brand gate, set up boost cut or mount your boost gauge where you can see it...

Re: CDM Wastegates???
Just check it with an air crompresser before you put it on the car. I bought one with a "6psi" spring but when i put a regulator and air to it. it opened at 15 psi. >:( So just check it. Or find a tard with a turbonetics evolution gate and buy it for 40$ like i did ;D
|
Re: CDM Wastegates???
ive ran 3, all worked great. the one i have now was supposed to be a 7psi spring...well, it was closer to 15 :S
running a Tial 11psi spring in it right now, at 20psi daily. 7500 miles and counting :6 just run boostcut on your ROM editor and you should be fine. i have mine set at 22psi just in case |
Re: CDM Wastegates???
i may be biased, but i used for for a while with no problems. the only reason i have a turbonetics now is cause someone was willing to trade me a mint one for a new type-s knock BOV. it was a super cheap name brand wastegate for me, otherwise i would still be running the CDm one

Re: CDM Wastegates???
i've never taken a wastegate apart before :'( Is it difficult to put back together, or is it fairly simplistic in design?
I noticed on EBAY they're actually selling new diaphragms for wastegates. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-W...spagenameZWD1V It says it fits OBX and Tial 'gates, and the CDM 1's are knock-offs, but do these diaphragms actualy work in the CDM 'gates? |

Re: CDM Wastegates???
I have been running one for over a year now. Works just like the day i got it. same with my ebay shitty turbo. Over a year and still works perfectly.

Re: CDM Wastegates???
On some gates you can use two long bolts/cap screws to compress and decompress the spring...
|
Re: CDM Wastegates???
thanks for the str8 up answer guys. ;D That's so unlike HMT ???
i now feel like less of a :1 |
Re: CDM Wastegates???

Re: CDM Wastegates???
watch about pinching the diaphram in the tophat of the wg. it's probably the #1 reason why people toss em out.
