Been reading this site all day, decided to sign up when I got home after work. Seems like a lot of knowledgable people, no offence but the search feature dont work so I wasnt able to search this question.

Now Im basically new to turbos, only what Ive read on here the last 2 days.

But my question is, you guys seem to talk about catch cans and PCV Valve modifications or something like that?

WHats are they? What are there purpose and are they nessecary for a 300hp daily driven turbo'd car?

Any info on what there for, how to install and why I should install one would be a huge help.

I wanna take my A6 to 300whp and hope this site can take me there, just gotta learn the basics.

basically relieves crankcase pressure since pcv closes when it sees boost.....too lazy to explain on so here's some more reading for you :P

so the PVC and catch can ---- are both the same comtraption?

Are they nessecary for higher boost applications?

the reason for the catch can is to have a place where the oil fumes accumilate and turn into oil drops and stay in the can. rather than in the intake manifold and end up in the cylinders. also, when you modify the pcv system, it will prevent boost pressure from the turbo to go in the crankcase and eventually break ringlands. do it like in the bees and goats link and check out the newbs look here if you want to install a turbo, in this same section up top.

Any reason why I cant just jb weld to fittings onto a solid soup can lol? This is Homemadeturbo

oh...so you're the creative kind huh.lol build up this one then. i made one for my car and posted these pics in the faq. only thing i have 1 fitting on the top of the can and one on the side. the top one goes to the intake, the side to the pcv.This is a DIY oil catch can with a sight tube.

this is the completed catch can without the flat black spray paint (it's outside drying now)

I made this catch can with a 7 inch long 2" id pvc tube.
It cost $1.30 at home depot, they sell it by the foot if you don't wanna buy the 10ft tube they'll cut it for you.
The top and bottom are caps for 2" pvc tube .88 each.
the fittings are the small vacuume fittings for the oil viewer but i had some and didn't feel like buying 90 degree vacuume fittings so i just cut 2 Ts' and plugged the hole with jb weld.
As you can see I drilled a hole at the bottom of the container after I glued the bottom cap to the longer tube with some jb weld, not a whole lot, just a light film around the inside of the cap, not the tube.
Then I measured how much of the clear plastic drinking water tube I needed after I installed and glued the 2 90 deg. fittings. Put glue in the holes you drilled in the pvc tube for the fittings so there's something in there to seal it, and glue around the outside hole too.
For the top I just drilled one hole 3/8" and trimmed it some so the 3/8" to 1/4" T would fit. jb weld that in there too for a good seal.
oh, all I paid for this was .88 x 2 for the caps and 1.30 for the pvc tube. and you can never have too much jb weld so I bought some of that too $3.99 I think it was? plus the fittings that I already had, along with the hoses that I had.
