Can I use this block for my new project?
Damn its been awhile since Ive posted but thats how I roll bishes! NE way, I recently picked up a Y8 long block for pocket change. All I really need is the bare block so if NE one needs the head or NEthing else hit me up. The reason I got the motor so cheap is cause the motor has a spun bearing. Ive already inspected the enging and thats seems to be the only flaw. My new project is a budget built boost block(LS rods and Posted). My Q is, would it be ok to use this block? Everything else seems mechanically sound, no cracks in the cylinder walls or any damaged to the block. If not at least got a new killer paper weight or I can through some glass on top and I got my self a new night stand. NE feedback will be a big help. Thanx guys.

as long as nothing is wrong with the block, as you mentioned, it should be ok. of coarse you are gonna clean it, and hone it, and inspect it after you do all of that right? i would say go with it.

Depending on how bad the spun bearing is, you will more than likly need to replace the crankshaft as well as the Oil pump (which is probably why the bearing spun in the first place) I've seen more spun bearings on D16y series than any honda engine ever. ------- oil pumps are garbage.

We're building my old Y8 at the moment. Get .25mm (10 over) bearings throughout the motor and have the damaged crank ground down to give you the clearance you want.
Also, we put a d16z6 oil pump, oil pickup, and oil pan on this one. The y8 oil pumps suck assssssss. I've been given more of these motors than I have time to play with.
We just put the z6 oil pump on the block and we realized there's no place for the dipstick to go. The y8 oil pump has a hole in it for the dipstick, but the z6 doesn't, so now we're gonna have to roll dipstickless. But ---- it.

Re: Can I use this block for my new project?
Cool, just wanted to be sure about everything before I started putting money into it. Of couse I am going to hone it, the cylinder walls are rusty as ----. As far as the oil pump, I had thought about useing a z6 pump too. I dont have a y8 and z6 pump in front of me right now but isnt there NE way you can mod the z6 to run a dipstick, use the Y8 pump housing maybe. Like I said I dont have da pumps in front of me so I dont know whats possible. And the crank, I had planed on getting it micropolished and balanced in El Paso. Its an hour away but my cousin works at a machine shop there and said he'ld hook me up. NE thoughts on this, should I chance it if I get it machined or should I just pick a new one? I also just found a RACE Engenering cylider brace for $90 shipped. NE opinions on braceing as opposed to posting? It seems like more of a money issue then performance, plus a brace will be easier then posting and Im lazy. Thanx again guyz.

Jeff, nitrill? coated doesn't mean anything to me. If there's one crank in the world that isn't coated and able to cut it down do whatever, who cares?
What's the difference in grinding and micropolishing? The new bearings are coated, the crank is micropolished, and I used sealed power assembly lube. Back up off me.

I was also wondering if NE one knows of a decently priced perfomance oil pump for da D? If this was a B16 Id go w/ a OEM reliable GSR pump. Thanx again.

you don't need a high performance pump, you need a z6. Just keep an eye on the the oil changes and how much you put in vs. how much you're taking out. Not having a dipstick will just keep you more honest on your maintenance.

Thanx for your 2 cents Steve. Ill prolly go w/ the z6 pump. Maybe Ill take the car to jiffylube for an oil change someday. The idea of dem looking for and not finding a dipstick seems kinda funny ta me.
