BUMP: T04E Questions

Ok, I have my first 'what turbo is this' thread. Turbomaster has failed me when it comes to this individual part number. Anyway, it is a Garrett with .70 a/r on the compressor housing. Thats about all the informaiton I can find. It also has 'M24' and "APM'' on the comp. housing. The closest thing I found when googling the info was a T04E. I recognize the split exhaust inlet, so I know I'm close. Anyone know the specific model, application, or happen to have a compressor map for this sucker? I'm thinking about using it on a vitara/i-beam/arp headstud z6.

it's a to4e14 I am looking at on ebay right now but I can't seem to find any for sure info on it. I think its compariable to a 57trim to4e but don't quote me on that.

Re: Is this a T04E?

Yes that's a 57 trim t04e.
as is, a prettymuch useless turbo. But this cold side, freshened to new and thrown on a faster spoolin hot side, makes a very nice 400+ HP turbo.

Anyone else have any input on this turbo?

Blaast, the modifications you are suggesting, would I look at the 't04e-57' compressor map on your website to see how it would perform?

Re: Is this a T04E?

It's not a 57 trim. It's a 46 trim. I have the same turbo but with a t3 turbine housing instead.

Re: Is this a T04E?

no it'S not a 46 trim, you would see a step in the wheel cavity. When it'S a cylindrical hole like in this picture, it's 57 or 60 trim.

Yes, the same flow chart applies to all T04e 57 trim regardless of the hot side used. you can have ) trim 1.32 a/R or t3 stage 1 .48 a/r but regradless, you have a 57 trim t04e wheel.
The flow charts DO NOT tell you the performances of a whole turbo. THey just tell how the compressor wheel can flow.

The proposed modifications are just to make it spool up faster as you're not using it on a cummins 5.9L diesel V8.

Need to clarify a few things with that statement.

-First: Cummins 5.9L diesel is a I6 not a V8
-Second: Holset is a fully owned subsidiary of Cummins, therefore you will never see a Garrett turbo on a Cummins, unless it was put there by the end user.
-Third: If I were to venture a guess I would say it did come off a Diesel V8, but it would be a Ford IDI 7.3L (the one just before the powerstroke.)

That is all.

Re: Is this a T04E?

regardless of the turbo brand and make of the truck, My actual point in the above statement was that diesel truck turbos in general have desirable compressors for most performance applications on 4 cyl engines but they all have a hot side that is too big for "most" setups. (although we all know they do work and make big numbers if you can live with lag)
If some smaller and compatible hot sides were readily available from holset and borgwarner, they would be just as nice hybrids as Garrett's t3/t4 turbos.

Re: Is this a T04E?

back from the DEAD!!

help me out on this one. I'm too damn poor to ------- get a new turbo for my built Z6, the money I have saved is going into a clutch and lsd. I know it has been done, but I can't really find anybody's impressions or results with blocking one of the scroll inlets off and just running this sucker that way. I'm really leaning toward doing this because 1) i already have the turbo and ---- to make the mani 2) turbo is in great shape and I think it is a feasible idea

post good info if you have it!
