i have recently built a d16z6. i am having problems adjusting the timing. it has vitara 8.5:1 pistons, tuner toy rods, balanced crankshaft, full supertech head package, port and polished head, zex stage 2 camshaft, cheap ebay intercooler and piping, tial style wastegate, ebay ssqv bov, s2 intake manifold, equal lenght turbo exhaust manifold, power 68mm throttle body. i have recently installed hondata s100 w/boost option and bubba at do it dyno did a base map somewhat setup for the mods, he told me after i got the computer back that i needed to retard my timing to like 12 deg. well i figured i would set it to 8 and see how it runs well when i fired it up it didnt want to run very well any suggestions?

so he told you to set ur timing at 12degrees but you set it at 8. :S

why not set it at the stock d16z6 timing of 16 degrees to get it started and work down from there.
is the base map set up for your injectors.

yeah the guy who did the computer told me to set the timing at 12 degrees but that just seemed a little extreme so i decided to set it at eight to see how the car ran but when i fired it up it idled real low and wanted to die.

What do you mean?

You set your timing mechanically and you set it to the same value at idle. What are you missing?

If your timing is set mechanically at 16 degrees then set it for 16 and go from there. :3

i set the cam at tod i have a skunk2 adj. cam gear every mark on the cam gear equals 2 degrees so i set the cam gear on the fourth mark so that would make it 8 degrees retarded right?

No, thats not right.

That will only work on the fourth day of a year with a blue moon in the third month, should you stand properly aligned with venus and pluto. Then your car will run perfectly, untill then you're fucked.

Man, you got me really confused. Why are you messing with cam timing? Why don't you set the timing at the crank pulley using a timing light and the corresponding marks on the cover? ???

oh boy...set the cam gear at 0 for now. Get a timing light and set the timing (using the dizzy) at 16 degrees. Why did he want it at 12?
