Building a 1.5L Mini Me Turbo!!!! ....bring your wisdon and experiece in here!!!

ok .. here it is .. im a planing a budget buils, and i here alot of do this and do that or dont do this . blah blah blah .... i here dont turbo a mini me the compression will be too high ... ok ... whatever ....

what ive got is a spare d15b2 block .... seems to be in good condition .... no scoring on the walls .... now acording the the knology d sereis compression calculater, by using the d15b2 block, with the z6 head, and the y8 head gasket it should yeild about a 10.1:1 CR .. is this true???

now why would people say this is too high a CR to run some good boost on??? people buy jdm b16's and run 8 psi with 10.4:1 CR all day long .....

so basicaly what i want to know is can i run about 8-10 pounds safley with this setup with a little tunning??? its going to be a junkyard kit by the way, most likely a 14b turbo, hf mani, with a nice starion IC...

what kind of fuel managment will i need to run that kind of boost??? can i get away with just using some 440cc injectors, vafc, colder plugs???.. this is in a 92 hatch by the way.. will i need to upgrade my fuel pump??? i have a spare gsr fuel pump, would that pump enough, and with the increased pumping an i going to need a FPR????

basicaly i want to use the mini me, cause i know with the slightly higher compression, and a little tunning this little 1.5 has the potention to rip hard... and id like to actualy pull some 13's out of it ....

so what do you all think .... shoot me some ideas and suggestions and knoledge please!!!!!

Joe

you will be fine with 10.1 compression. I think you should buy a d16 block d15 are so weak. for fuel go with uberdata and some 450's you dont need a fuel pump but if your car has a lot of miles its good to buy a new one.

wish i could post a pict of my d15b2 that blew up under 10 psi, it had dpfi on it but i had 2 extra fuel pumps and a 440cc injector dummping into the intake /secondary kicked it in.. but anyways, have you ever went to a restraunt and ordered oinon peels for starter.. well my piston looked like that, it melted the rings to it and the edges started flaking off in big chunks and it spun all the rod bearings..
the car ran great until denation.. not i have a d16a6 SI turbo.. i was thinking about a mini me turbo. but roumer has it there too high compression and alot of trouble due to overheating.. cause the d15b1 and 2, and d16a6 blocks do not have a good heat sink.. im trying to get info too. but my d16a6 scoots under 8psi.. oh yea get a Apex-i SAFC for fuel managment it works great

and y do u day the 1.5's are week??? i head they could take a pretty good beating??? what would make them weaker than the 1.6L'S???

i will use the 1.5l right now, cause its what i have laying around ... i have a spare one, and i dont care if it blows.... allthough i dont want it to blow, cause i dont want to damage the head....

plus one set of my friends are all about big displacment .. blah blah blah ... i want to show them what a little 1.5 can do.......

The d15 rods are the weak point d16 rods are a little better butt still not great. d15's can take a good beating but just cant take a lot of power, they have better R/S ratios so they probably will last longer than a d16 just at a lower boost level.

D15 crank (main) journals are also half the size of a D16. I'd start with the D16

d15 suck balls. i blew two in about 2 weeks. i dunno i just couldmt make them handle boost. one got raped and the other didnt even take 9psi with the stock head! i dont know i just wont be messing with d15's anymore. i was using 450cc injectors afc and msd btm.

did u blow em do to detonation or mechanical failure ....

i mean, i have the block just laying around, i figure i might as well try it out right??? if ti blows i put on a d16 bottom ....

u think i could get away reliably with the mini me 1.5 and keep her at only 8psi then??? maybe a quick trip to the dyno to have the vafc tuned real nice???

For the price you can pick up a d16 block, why don't you start with it? You're welcome to build this one up but I think you will grow tired of it or break it (whichever comes first).

All about the tuning.

well, u may be right, i may grow tired of it, or i may break it ... but, its not going to be my daily driver, and sice i dont have money to play with cars in the big game right now, if i break it at least i get to have some fun putting it back together again ....

really, my main concern is damaging the head..... if i blow the motor what is the chance of me fuckgin up the head???? i know theres always a good chance of it happenind wit detonation, but what about if its a mechanical breakdown???

also, what exactly happens when you "spin" a bearing????
