budget turbo
I used to post here a while ago..but lack of money to rebuild my civic has lowered my activity in research on turbo stuff. fortunatly my other car was destroyed by some idiot driver and i now have a sweet insurance check to spend on my civic. so..
I want to finish my mini me conversion+turbo kit. I tried looking up my old posts to find questions I asked before but came up with no results. So if you guys would be cool enough to help me I would appreciate it.
Project goal: Run a turbo mini me on my 93 hb cx. low budget low boost. higher reliabilty/less chance of exploding engine.
Turbo: small. dunno what kind? maybe dsm. my roomate can score a wrx for cheap
PSI: 5-6. not sure which turbo is good for this since most factory internal wastegate stuff is like 8psi
Intercooler: pref none..or a small one like a saab if I really need it.
Management: This is where i need some real help. only want to run the 5-6psi. so cheap and easy is best. Was thinking an fmu (not sure which rate) for simplicity. I have an electrical engineer friend that has an eprom burner..but my knowledge of that management is minimal at best.
Other q's: which head gasket should i go with the d16y8(10.4 cr) or the d16z6 (10.1 cr)?
with this amount of boost psi what kind of timing retard do i need?
If any you guys want to give me some advice that will be great. Im gonna keep searching and try to find more info as well.
thanx

nice! what kind of management you running? for some reason I thought manual boost controlers only allowed you to increase the about boost. like all it does is decreases the vaccum to the wastegate so it will stay closed longer ie giving more pressure?

I am not trying to take over your thread but i had a question. Is it possible to build a budget/custom turbo setup for a B series motor around the same price range(500-800 dollar). If so how reliable would it be?
thanks
thanks

you have yet alot to learn bro :P
