BOV ok or compressor surge?
Hi It's my first setup so I'm not familiar how it should sound like. I don't get the same sound as I found in sound clips for HKS BOV. (I don't give a damn about the sound, I want to spare my turbo from compressor surge).
The sound I get is like a rattlesnake when throttle is shut under boost. I only get a kind of typical high pitch "Chirp" under very heavy load (highway ramp acceleration).
Is that rattlesnake sound compressor surge or normal venting sound for low boost (only 6 psi)? :1
My setup
B18 LS turbo
HKS knock off from donald, not recirculated
Vacuum T'ed from intake manifold, boost gauge from same source, I get 20 in Hg vac
WG set at 6 psi
Thanks, Rock on

If you're only boosting 6psi then I figure you're getting compresure surge at 3psi? that's the rattle snake sound. 6psi isn't much 10 psi is the quota. :1 But if you want it to not compresure surge at 3psi you should cut a coil or half a coil from the bov spring.
thanks
adjustment screw is already in the least compressing position, still in but completely unscrewed. I put silicone around the screw to make sure that BOV wasn't loosing its vacuum since those dont seem to be sealing threads.
So rattlesnake sound is compressor surge. I'll work on the spring, a coil at the time.
Hope you got good laying

ssqv is a sequential bov. low boost valve, and high boost valve.
the lower boost valve makes that noise=rattlesnake
high boost=bird ----
i have the ssqv and it sounds exactly the same.
heres a video of what compressor surge actually sounds like...
