you can use b18b rods.....they're pretty thick for d-series rods, shot peened those would do the trick, but if you got the money just buy some aftermarket rods. Check out dseries.org....or maybe it's d-series.org....do a google search for d series forums....they have all the info you need

I got an extra set of D16Z6 rods that have been glass beaded i'll be willing to sell them if you want them, I've also done the LS rod fit in the D series engine if you want info. Like I said I'll sell you my extra set so if your interested. 
Let me have your address and your payment option. I'm about to go to work
