Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
Does a turbo really mess with an auto that bad? I didn't know that. What about the turbo auto cars out there. Like my buddies old 1G Talon. It was turbo auto. How's 5 speed make it different?

Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
those honda auto trannys just aren't meant to take that kind of power.

Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
ive seen lots of auto trannies take a ---- w/o even any FI.
my auto tranny took a ---- after 2 yrs of very light nitrous use, now imagine what a turbo would do. my best mod has been the manual conversion, then turbo. |
Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
so say a greaddy kit that's for a stock set up would still be too much? what about backing off the boost a little? i would be cool w/2 yrs of tranny life cause that would allow me to scrape together the parts for the 5 spd...i'm a noob at all this so i don't know...

Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
i think a greddy kit at stock boost would probably be fine. Just don't beat on it too much.

Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
if your gonna do it id suggest a tranny oil cooler and changing the atf w/ honda atf very often.
i only got 2 yrs out of it cuz i sprayed maybe once or twice a month w/ a tranny oil cooler. but the constant abuse of a turbo i doubt it'll last as long... |
Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
i don't plan on using any spray....yet...if i do, i will definitely do the tranny swap...i may start looking for the pieces now...

Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
my experience was with spray alone. im talking about any kind of forced induction.. honda auto trannies just arent stout enough.
i was making a comparison between constant boost vs my 1 - 2 sprays a week, the turbo will own the auto clutch packets unless you plan to drive out of boost most of the time? |
Re: Boosting a slushbox ?
get a 0bd2 to obd1 conversion harness for your ecu woes, and if your radiator is a radiator/tranny fluid cooler, please seperate them. if your tranny goes up, so does the motor and vice versa. an auto should be so lucky as to die at the spool of a turbo. boost it till it craps out and then swap in the manual.
