boosting a 2.2L...
 

My initial plan was to boost my 2.2 DOHC with a t3, and i've heard that with the right trim i could produce boost up to redline, but i've also read that t3's are too small for a 2.2.. What do u guys think? reccommend anything? I also wanted to go with the t3 because of the adapter plate that a few places are selling. I havent seen an adapter plate for any other turbo for my manifold. Anyways.. the manifold is a 3s-gte (toyota) if that helps. Thanks

you still have a lot of reading to do...

there is different sizes of T3's..start learning more about the turbo's. Maybe pick up a book called Maximum boost by Corkey Bell

also if you find that a different turbo would be better you can also have a shop make and weld a flange to your mani.

even a big t3 is to small for a 2.2 in my opinion, you need a t3/t4 mang :y hell my 60 trim t3 is even too small for my b16a ::)

a t3 super 60 or a 60-1 might be alright for it. Depends on how crazy you want to get. What are your're hp goals?

My buddy just picked up a 42/48 for his Celica. He's going to start with that the build up as time goes on.

my buddies MR2 Turbo with the 3s-gte has the toyota ct26 stock turbo. we have it pushing 15psi from 3,200 rpm all the way until 7,000 rpm. it holds boost good with no spiking. also running a MBC and a few other mods. I would half to classify a ct26 as a t3 super 60. just because of the compressor wheels and trims. if you were to upgrade i would definately say a t3/t4 hybrid. if you read on most ofthe toyota sites, and professionals buildingthat engine that is the turbo of choice. i would say on a stock MR2 with stock ignition 12psi is the most you can run PERIOD. unless you have a 93-95 MR2 turbo you can run 14psi. YES i am talking about PSI and not LBS per minute. because we all know that a t4 compressor housing and wheel will produce more lbs of air at 6psi than a ct26 at 6psi. the reason you cant run higher boost is due to limitations of the ECU's. they also have a safety feature built in to cut the engine at 12 or 14 psi depending on which version you have.
1st gen 3s-gte =had TVIS
2nd gen 3s-gte =did not have TVIS

run a t3/t4 and make crazy power. on a 8.8.1 compression ratio 3s-gte. STOCK

if i remember correctly the 3s-gte was a 2.0L and the non turbo 5s-fe was the 2.2L? but that was with the 91-95 MR2 sw20 body type

The NA versions of the MR2 Engine have a higher comp ratio.
