Boost problems-- help a homie out
Hey guys, boosted now (kinda) Its a greddy kit (I know, greddy POS-- it was really cheap) with a xenocron chipped ecu running dsm450's. Whenever I get about half throttle and come near boost I get hardcore backfire/ sputtering and I assume its one of two things. First could it be the spark plugs? They are some older denso iridiums at stock plug gap (45ish i think) They have prob like 3k miles on them-- is it possible they could cause this severe of a problem? It drives (or its seems) normal at low throttle, normal driving. The other thing was maybe one of the injectors-- I bought them used and on one of them the tiny metal tip on the spraying end of the injector was not there-- I don't really know anything about injectors so I dunno if it was broken off or something? Is it possible that that injector is not working at all or really shitty? I would think that it would run shitty even at idle then wouldn't it? And wouldn't there be a CEL or something if a whole cylinder wasn't getting gas? I just installed the xenocron ecu but i don't think that is the problem-- i trust his work and his basemap. Let me know what ya think-- thanks guys.

thanks for the replies guys, gonna run to autozone tomorrow and pick up some new ngk's and gap em down, hopefully thats the problem. Maybe i'll pick up new wires for the hell of it, the ones i have came on the engine when i got it so maybe they're old as hell and dying on me. Better be something simple

Re: Boost problems-- help a homie out
Went to autozone and got some new plugs-- pulled the old ones and 3 of them were fine-- perfect tan color, but the 4th one, the one with the questionable injector, was the blackest plug i've ever seen. Threw in the new set, went for a quick drive and still misfiring, checked that plug and it was already black again. So I ordered a new dsm injector-- 91 turbo eclipse standard sound right for the 450's?-- that comes in tomorrow, and hopefully that will fix my problem. I'll let ya know. if you care. do you love me the way i love you hmt? Well, i will love you more once the car is boosting

Re: Boost problems-- help a homie out
I gapped them down to 30 and i'm just using the stock ones for now, last I checked the one step colder plugs were backordered on Summit and the only other place i found you had to buy a set of 20, which i don't really have the spare cash for right now. Anyone know of anywhere else to get them? Oh and I'm just getting one new injector to replace the broken one, not a whole set. Its about $60 after the $15 core charge, and i got my set of 4 dsm's for $50, but what can ya do? It comes in tomorrow and the sooner the better. At least I'll have the insurance of having a brand new injector right?
