Boost Creeeeeeep !!!

Any of you people getting boost creep on your setups?
I am using the Subaru IHI and The wastegate is 8psi and I have gone past that not knowing a couple of times. Anyone know how to fix it? I was thinking of modifying the dumpipe exhaust flange on the turbo????

Any suggestions ?

Actually, I found an article today about a 2 stage boost control made out of your wastegate.. Uhm, let me find the post..

You can use this idea to keep your max boost..

Hmm, not using a EBC, and wastegate rod actuator is not modified at all, could it be cause by the wastgate not opening far enough?

Boost creep is normally caused by an exhaust leak.
Check for some holes.

any leak in your tubing from the mani to the wastegate can cause this.. as well the diaphrame in the wastegate can leak if its old and will allow for creep.. check this simple stuff first.

Re:Boost Creeeeeeep !!!

YAY u have the same turbo and same problem i have.
i did a little research yesterday. i also had a pin in my rod to make just 8psi however i would get boost creeps of 14psi in third, pretty scary but my motor (so far knock knock) has held up like a champ.

it has to do with the exhaust. i had no downpipe at all, the flange was off so it was like running it off the turbo. check it out. most people i have spoken too on the matter have said that even a 2.5 inch depending on the exhaust size might be big because thats one small turbo. however i have a 2" and a 2.5 inch and have yet to test it. i am almost sure thats the problem.

if you have questions email me at work
ramaro@healthpart.com i would be glad to help

Re:Boost Creeeeeeep !!!

Well I figured it out, Cause the Subaru uses that flat plat with a indent on the inside the wastegate hardly opens, I had to modify it with my dremel and angle grinder and it works good. B4 It would creep to 10 or more, and now it creeps 1 psi max from 5 to 6 through every gear (except 5th never tryed). Only thing is that the spring in the wastegate is rated for 8psi but only get 5 even at WOT?? I am not complaining cause I daily drive this thing so 5-6 is fine with me, I guess I will try using a boost controller to see if i can raise it when I go dyno.

if your running an intercooler, that's why your only reading 5psi boost (if your measureing at the TB or intake). the intercooler cools the air, cooler air is less dense, there fore you get less measureable boost. you might be pulling 8psi AT the turbo, but by the time it cools, it may only read 5psi. now, if you reading 5psi AT the turbo, then disregard everything i said. :) also, curves and bends can drop boost levels, but i can't explain why on that one.
