Boost on a Built D Series
Im planning on boosting my d16y7 with a custom 14b kit intercooled. I was wondering if the block is built. Rods, sleves, etc (obviously with fuel mods). How much boost can it actually handle before it pops? I want a low 13sec car (or less), and if it's not going to boost too well then I might as well swap a b20 then boost. Would lowering compression to say 9:1 be a smart move?
Also is the 1gen bov just as good as an aftermarket. Or is there much of an performance difference? |
Re:Boost on a Built D Series
I would say that safely, you could run about 12psi with proper fuel management. Anything above that.. and your punish it a bit. As long as you have no detonation you should be fine with 12psi.

What about on dropped compression?

Re:Boost on a Built D Series
With a built block, pistons/sleeves/rods your boost is going to be limited by how well your car is tuned. You could easily run 20psi on a setup like that, as long as you have properly sized injectors and a kick ass engine management setup.
I think 13's would not be a problem.. Jeff |

Off topic, I apologize.. but PMs bother me. :(
Anyway.. Boosted, your URL in your siggie doesn't resolve, is it correct? ..or is it just down? |

fixed ;D

Re:Boost on a Built D Series
no need to build to hit 13's. My boy hit a 13.2 on slicks in a 2000 CX hatch
T3/T4 FMU SAAB Intercooler Piping by volvo fuel pump 10PSI 13's all day long. |
Re:Boost on a Built D Series
If all you want to run is 13s, why would you waste your money on building it.. unless you have a ---- load of miles on the motor, I would rather spend the money on a good stand alone and some injectors then get it tuned by someone who knows what they're doing..
I forgot to mention a timming retard, it would also help.. ....Z |

indeed, you dont need to build the bottom end for 13's at all. Good traction, decent turbo setup and a good driver, piece of cake! Jeff |
Re:Boost on a Built D Series
well I really want 13 or lower. So built gives me that ability to go lower. ;)

Re:Boost on a Built D Series
no need to rebuild if its old, i have over 160000 miles of pure asswhoopin on my motor and now its boosted

Re:Boost on a Built D Series
my buddy Neal is running stock D16a6 internals on a stock, never been touched engine 13psi intercooled with a greddykit and just broke 13.8

Re:Boost on a Built D Series
13.8 with 13psi :P
thats alot of boost for a high 13 sec run.. you should be in the low 13s do you not get traction or what?? ...Z |
Re:Boost on a Built D Series
Ya.. that's got to be bad driving..
Either that or his motor blew out at the end of the run. ;D |
Re:Boost on a Built D Series
