Default blown turbo hopefully

so i have a d16z6 with eagles and srp. used 16g turbo with some shaft play but always did smoke alot in boost. i just got it tuned the other day ran fine. then awhile later it would sometimes sound like i have a boost leak and woudl not come out of vaccum. it has no boost leaks that i can find. and sometime out of now where it would sound like the boost leak was gone and it would start to spool to like 10psi and then shoot to 0 and then fall on its face. then it started making a clunking/popping noise. so i unhooked the charge pipe from the turbo just incase the turbo was gunna disengrate and shoot metal into my motor. then the noises pretty much go away (with the charge pipe removed) unless i rev it high it makes a bad noise. shaftplay on the turbo is about the same its always been... idea's/

Loss of oil, coolant? Do you see any smoke? What color? Little things, bub.

It's not too likely, but it is a possibility that it's a blown compressor seal on the turbo. Well technicaly called the o-ring, it's the black rubber seal between the center section and the compressor housing. It sits under the huge *** snap ring that holds the compressor housing on. I just rebuilt an e316g that had that issue. It was all coked up and made the seal all bad and ----. It could leak some boost out of there I suppose and would possibly smoke off and on if there was some other ---- going on. I'd guess both seals were bad if it's smoking.

I'd say rebuild the turbo. It's fairly easy to do with the right tools, and if the shaft play isn't too bad you could even get away without a balance if you didn't feel like spending the $50 or so. I rebuild MHI turbos all the time. If you need any help or info I'd be glad to help.

I have a real e316g coming back from G-Pop pretty soon. It was there for a balance after a rebuild and also to have 2 snapped studs removed and the threads repaired. It is 100%, bottom line. Is your 16g a real MHI turbo? If it is maybe we can work something out for a partial trade for the blown one and some $ or something, but this is a really good turbo I have that has some $ into it. If you need it sooner than, say, 10 days I don't think I can make that happen, but if you can wait 2 weeks I'll have a really nice e316g for you.

Twin scroll flanges. They won't bolt onto your set-up and the turbo is the other way too.
