blown headgasket....?
so i just got my setup done today. ran great didnt boost it to much and only let it hit around 5psi then let off didnt take it over 4000rpm. on my way home i noticed a cloud of white smoke. and think shits its blown. then i look and the temp gauage shot right to hot.
blown headgasket? lemme know what you think. |
Re: blown headgasket....?
yes
sorry |
Re: blown headgasket....?
yup i knew it. anything to prevent this in the future? maybe why it blew?
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
one of my buddies told me it might be my intake manifold gasket? would this also cause it to over heat?
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
no its classic case of headgasket blown
probably due to headlift or warping to be foolproof get arp headstuds and and oem headgasket if you have the loot, get the head/block decked probably not neccesary |
Re: blown headgasket....?
after a temp redline its a very very very good idea to get the head checked, the heat warps it
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
whats the chances i cracked a sleeve?
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
low
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
i was told it might be cracked sleeve bc it smokes on start up
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
smoking on start up its still a very high possability its a hg, arp studs FTW, i got those there a bitch to get the head on by your self (and if you dont take the intake manifold off) i recomend you spend 150 for studs 60-100 for oem gasket and when your puttin the studs back on, check the head and deck, then get a couple buddies help you get that head back on

Re: blown headgasket....?
thanks for making me feel a little more positive before school. i got lots of friends with knoewledge and that are down to help. thanks alot!

Re: blown headgasket....?
dont be a vagina and go do it by yourself in 2 hours if your incompetent, 30 mins if not
takes me 3-4hrs to do a HG/studs working slowly and carefully + cleaning |
Re: blown headgasket....?
30 mins

welll i pulled the head today in about 20min. easier than i thought. and the sleeves wernt cracked! :)
but the gasket didnt look bad? just kinda flakey around the sleeves? is this normal? do they normally not look too bad? also lots of water in the oil very milky looking |
Re: blown headgasket....?
f'n a dude. if its milky its done for. i never seen a honda with blwn hg. <-- luck..
but my pontiac had multiple problems and it made it hard to tell the problem. but yes one of my two hg were toast. still drove it tho with no smoke till the hose exploded and dumped 2 gallons of water on to a 200+ degree exsuast manifold. stunk and gave real white smoke. however at start-up i could rest a bare hand on the manifold but the intake manifold was roasting hot. it never puked and i had no heat. never leaked but it allways had a empty resivouir. you draw it up, i hate coolant problems. |
Re: blown headgasket....?
check the head, or fror he price get a used one and then put it together
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
cars been fixed for 2 weeks. headgasket was the problem.
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
i had a 98 cavalier back when i was in college, i had a headgakset and headbolts sittin at home waitin for the sucker to blow, back on topic tho, good to see you got your rig fixed up.

Re: blown headgasket....?
How are your bearings doing? Coolant in the oil does not do good things for bearings :P Oh, and I hope you used a MLS headgasket...multi-layer-steel...if it's a composite one it'll just pop again.
|
Re: blown headgasket....?
yea i got a y8 one so its a 3 layer metal. and i changed the oil when did the gasket. and when the gasket blew i was like a 15sec drive from where i was parking the car.
