one of my buddies told me it might be my intake manifold gasket? would this also cause it to over heat?

no its classic case of headgasket blown
probably due to headlift or warping
to be foolproof get arp headstuds and and oem headgasket
if you have the loot, get the head/block decked
probably not neccesary

after a temp redline its a very very very good idea to get the head checked, the heat warps it

smoking on start up its still a very high possability its a hg, arp studs FTW, i got those there a bitch to get the head on by your self (and if you dont take the intake manifold off) i recomend you spend 150 for studs 60-100 for oem gasket and when your puttin the studs back on, check the head and deck, then get a couple buddies help you get that head back on
