Default Block Guards

Yeah, I know alot of you think block guards suck, but if one were to want to get one per the advice of a local engine builder, what brand would you go with?? Some of the ones I see on Ebay (mad tite JDM ones) seem like they would be really restrictive in coolant flow. It looks like the Golden Eagle ones are pretty free flowing. What do you guys think?? (w/o telling me to fill the block.... :P) Thanks.

Are they planning to weld it in?

Ive looked into both devcon filler and a generic block guard and a block guards seems to be the way to go if anything at all

My new motor sitting in my basement has a pressed in block guard, couldnt remember the name

Biggest problem with block guards are (1) not getting them to where the most lateral loading occurs on the cylinder wall, and (2) distorting the cylinder walls when they are pressed in.

I would file fit the block gaurd so it doesnt distort ---- all when poped in and weld ii in place If I was to do one.

I went with a Golden Eagle and file fitted it and then the block was bored and decked.

thats the way to do it if you were to do it but I would just fill. I have never heard of anyone having problems with this and its cheap.

there is such a misconception about these. a good block guard will allow good coolant flow through to the head. let me clear some of this up

- a block guard should be secure into the water jacket buy either devon or jb you can weld it if you want but i don't recommend it because the concentration of heat will warp the aluminum.

-a block guard should NOT be used unless you are installing it and get a bore and hone job as well. a hone job alone will not correct the distortion of the cylinders.

-it will help to portmatch any holes that don't line up with your headgasket this way you have straight through flow

-ebay block guard aren't well engineered as you probably guessed

i'd get a golden eagle, jg, or race engineering block guard

it can be used successfully, too many people install them wrong then blame the block guard. same applie to block posting

Golden Eagle looks like it offers the best coolant flow.

im about a month away from gettin some kind of block gaurd. if i use a golden eagle and get it bored teh honed i wont be able to use stock bore pistons and thats wat i got is stock bore pistons so im guess taht is out fo the question. and the devcon looks pretty good but im not sure rite now so i'll be doin some more reading an watching this thread. ive never seen any block posting but have a general idea of it how does that do? im lookin at pushin about 20 #s of boost rite around 350 to 400 so i need somthing for my sleeves.
