the hottest part of the cylinder wall is the top, thus when you put a block guard in, you take away the cooling effect from the top of the cylinder and head, a higher chance of detonation can occur. I think www.theoldone.com has a good write up on this.

One of my friend talk about putting pins throughout the block to keep the cylindre in place. Someone have pictures and could tell me if it's better than block guard?

look around the site, we talk about post/pinned open deck blocks alot. its a pretty good method. My built ZC is done that way.

beats the ---- out of me man, I didnt have enough balls to do it myself, I just said "---- it" 250 bucks including shipping and it was done.

Larry said something like 1 inch pound, so we are talking like finger tight then I guess. Plus the fact I had my cylinders already bored before this was done ::) big no no.. oh well.

Something as simple as that.. I wouldn't see why the manufacturer, or at least HONDA in general wouldn't do that stock. :-\

because honda sleeves are incredibly stable for a NA motor, you wouldnt need to do anything like that at all.

Honda never thought that we would be putting mitsubishi turbos using HF manifolds would they? ;)

Anyway.. Sort of off topic, but not really question..

I blew my A6 block about 2 months ago, I'm 99% sure it was the rings that blew, but I haven't pulled the block from that car yet. Anyway, I was to build up that block again, LS rods, sleeves, and such. I want to run 14-16lbs of boost on it when I'm done.

If it were the rings that blew out, the block would still be salvageable even if the cylinder walls are scratched because to sleeve, it would be bored out, and the sleeve put in, correct? I just don't want to waste my time on the block if it's not going to perform as well as I would like it.

No I didnt do that myself... a good machinest in our area did mostly everything..

If you are putting new sleeves in the block, it doesnt matter what they look like now, to install new sleeves they bore the ---- out of the existing ones and press in the new sleeves.
