Re:block guards???

LoL,

If you do get a block guard, install it the proper way. get it welded in place, then rebore your cylinders and redeck your block, So their will be no cylinder distortion. Lots of people pop their heads off and just pound these things in. When they really dont do ----.

Re:block guards???

yeah i read up on it its tight has lanching thing n stuff like that but i have a ls with p75 ecu. it talks about like p28's n p72 ecu's so will hondata work for me? oh n one more thing. umm a drag stage I sohc kit would i be able to get a dohc manifold for it. the thing is imma get a stage one for cheap $1800 but its for a sohc. would a b series drag manifold fit on a sohc drag kit? n i never heard of a stage one u think its good as stage III? i appreciate all the help.

Re:block guards???

you might want to contact hondata to see if that ecu will work for you or not.

I dont know what are all the levels of the drag kits, and what turbos come with each. But I am pretty sure all drag kits use t3 turbochargers, and all the manifolds are the same. Some modifcations will need to be done to the charge pipeing and downpipe. But it should be to big of a deal.

I have sen on other board that block guard could give heating problems with the head. Is it true??

HMT-Admin 01-28-2003 05:28 PM

Re:block guards???

yup, very true,

Re:block guards???

Why it will heat more than a sleeve blocks?

Re:block guards???

the hottest part of the cylinder wall is the top, thus when you put a block guard in, you take away the cooling effect from the top of the cylinder and head, a higher chance of detonation can occur. I think www.theoldone.com has a good write up on this.

Re:block guards???

One of my friend talk about putting pins throughout the block to keep the cylindre in place. Someone have pictures and could tell me if it's better than block guard?

HMT-Admin 01-28-2003 05:51 PM

Re:block guards???

look around the site, we talk about post/pinned open deck blocks alot. its a pretty good method. My built ZC is done that way.

Re:block guards???

jeff how would u know when to stop torquing those things so they dont warp the ---- outta your sleeve

HMT-Admin 01-28-2003 06:24 PM

Re:block guards???

beats the ---- out of me man, I didnt have enough balls to do it myself, I just said "---- it" 250 bucks including shipping and it was done.

Larry said something like 1 inch pound, so we are talking like finger tight then I guess. Plus the fact I had my cylinders already bored before this was done ::) big no no.. oh well.

Re:block guards???

Something as simple as that.. I wouldn't see why the manufacturer, or at least HONDA in general wouldn't do that stock. :-\

Re:block guards???

because honda sleeves are incredibly stable for a NA motor, you wouldnt need to do anything like that at all.

Honda never thought that we would be putting mitsubishi turbos using HF manifolds would they? ;)

Re:block guards???

Did you do your sleeves yourself? Those are pretty. ;D

Anyway.. Sort of off topic, but not really question..

I blew my A6 block about 2 months ago, I'm 99% sure it was the rings that blew, but I haven't pulled the block from that car yet. Anyway, I was to build up that block again, LS rods, sleeves, and such. I want to run 14-16lbs of boost on it when I'm done.

If it were the rings that blew out, the block would still be salvageable even if the cylinder walls are scratched because to sleeve, it would be bored out, and the sleeve put in, correct? I just don't want to waste my time on the block if it's not going to perform as well as I would like it.

Re:block guards???

No I didnt do that myself... a good machinest in our area did mostly everything..

If you are putting new sleeves in the block, it doesnt matter what they look like now, to install new sleeves they bore the ---- out of the existing ones and press in the new sleeves.

Re:block guards???

How much should that roughly cost? I'm not really looking to spend more than like $500 building up this block.. because I know i'll do something to blow it all to hell. :'(
