blinking cel
hey guys,
97 d16y8 14b turbo afc dsm 450's 9 psi retarded the timing at the dizzy
coming home from a car show today, the car ran fine until i got into fifth gear. it sounds kind of like a wrx, louder kinda lopey, power doesnt respond like it did, and the car kind of studders in all gears. the cel light comes on and blinks, continiously. going to change/check spark plugs, there is no oil burning smell or color in exhaust. hopefully the afc hasn't caught up with me and i need a rebuild. thanks
Nate

Re: blinking cel
i reset the ecu, no luck.
i pulled the number one spark plug wire while the car was running and it doesnt affect it, all the other cylinders do. moved spark plugs around and no change. ill try to change fuel filter, dizzy cap and rotor, never been changed as far as i know so il start there.
the blinking cel means misfire on one or more cylinders right?

Re: blinking cel
check your O2 sensors, mine went bad and since the AFC was adding in a lot of fuel aready, when the O2 takes a ---- it adds in more fuel, so you then have a retarded ammount, and i causes misfires
also check the IAT sensor cause that will have the same effect

Re: blinking cel
Retarding OBD2 car at the dizzy is completely useless when the ECU monitors and corrects based on CKF.
Pin the CKF to the CKP, and magically you can retard timing at the distributor. How much can you retard it, again? Right around 9 degrees as far as the dizzy will travel? Well, that's still not enough at 9 psi to avoid pingies and purging coolant into the overflow and a bunch of headgasket problems, and it'll sure make the car feel slow as goat ***** out of boost, but yeah just retard it and pretend you're okay.
