Default The Best Compression Pistons

1994 Honda Civic D16Z6

I will be buying some forged piston, and rods in the next two days, but I have a couple questions: should I buy 8.5:1 compression pistons or 9.1:1 compression pistons, and why?

I've done a search already, but there was no comparison made about the two choices.

Any information/opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Whitey, based on your response, how much does the lower compression pistons affect overall performance? By the way, I heard the 8.5:1 can handle more boost. What's your opinion?

your car will be a dog down low with really low compression. I'd stay in the 9's. Right now I've got 8.0:1 and it sucks compared to 10:1 I used to have

i would rather have 9.0 to 1 with 15 psi than 8.0 to one with 20psi any day.

It looks like 9.1:1 compression takes the cake .

i disagree with 10:1 compression pistons. they are a little bit too high. If you were rebuilding a block and instaling new pistons i would go with 8.5:1 . I have a b18b with 9:1 and i am going to be turbocharging that - but if i could, i would want to put 8.5:1 pistons in there. If you think about it, the higher the compression - the more likely you are to detonate and ping. With lower compression pistons you are able to put more and more boost. Dont go 8:1, that is just too damn low, that is for like people who are boosting 25+psi. Dont go past 9:1, and dont go below 8.5:1 . thats my 2cents

i dont think i can find the car now but there was a guy that was trying to sell a built civic that he said had 10.0:1 compression and was running 20 some psi. thats what he claimed. either way get it tuned up.
