bad turbo? OR not..
If your timing slipped it would change with out you screwing with it. Its not too uncommon to have your timing slip after souping up a car. If your belt or chain is loose wringing more ponies out of an engine will expose it.

new thermostat..runs better..still wants to overheat when im boosting, vac it runs fine..so im leaning massively towards the timing belt slipped..had too..so i got one the other day..going to replace the headgasket just in case and throw some arp head bolts in..just to play it safe...it will give me the chance to throw my IM/TB in, replace the tps which is shot..and do the whole water pump, oil pump, timing belt change..it runs pretty good, there is a tad bit decrease in performance..compression test was good..so timing belt is the largest contributor i think..id much rather have it slip than do break it..thats for damn sure...
you checked for boost leaks but are you sure you didnt skip BOV leak? it might be causing the same problem stated above. block the bov flange with some sheet metal and see if it does the same thing again.
edit: just saw that you solved the problem though...

I know you pretty much solved everything but I remember you said it seemed to die off at 6k, but ran good in vacuum. If so did you gap your plugs down? If not the boost is probably blowing out the spark.
