B18C1+low boost

Hey guys, great forum. I'm planning to make a custom kit myself, and the stickies have helped me unbelievably (thanks).

Ok, now I have a question (I'll probably get flamed for this): I have a GSR and am planning to do a low boost setup. My question is, what turbo do I go with? I don't want T3/T04e because I'm not boostin past 9psi (stock internals); the only thing I'll do to lower compression is a thicker headgasket. Right now, I'm considering the T3, the 14b, and the 16g. Any other suggestions would also help me a lot. Thanks guys.

Hey man.. I don't see why you'd get flamed, you didnt say "YO I HAVE A GSR AND WANT TO TURBO WHAT SHOULD I DO I WANT TO RUN 9'S ON 22" SPINNAZ"

Ok.. maybe no one said that.. but anyways.

If you're planning on not going over 9 PSI, I'd go with the 14B. I really love those turbo's.

Anything else? :P

eh, I'm a noob, and I'm from club si lol.

I'm planning to run an OBD I P72 with uberdata, run a 2.5" dp/cat/exhaust, and an FMIC. anything else I'm forgetting? I know I'm leaving a lot of major parts out, but I've done my research (plan to do more though), and I'm still trying to figure out what turbo would be best for my application.

oh and another thing; would an internal wastegate be good enoguh for low boost, or will I need an external one such as Tial to prevent the boost creep/spikes?

if your gonna run uberdata i see no reason why your stock motor wont support 15psi..

ive seen those motors hold fine at 18psi. tuned good.

stock internals???? That can't have a long life though.

Re:B18C1+low boost

I've seen them have long lives.. know what usually kills engines? Three things.

1) Improper assembly of parts (oops, I forgot the wastegate!)
2) Cockiness (I think my engine can take another 10 psi..)
3) Improper tuning

So, when you're doing this, make sure you do it right. Don't get cocky. And make sure it is tuned.

Re:B18C1+low boost

first a 14b is rediculously small for a b18c1... the key is cfm not psi... if you run a bigger turbo, youll make more hp at lower boost. youll be very happy with a t3/t4.

second you can run 12-14 psi finely tuned and itll last quite a while..

also uberdata rules and last, dont buy a 14b.. there too small for a d series.

Re:B18C1+low boost

what about the 16g?

and regardless, even on stock internals I don't think I'd be able to take it past 10psi in fear of blowing the ---- out of it (can we cuss here?) :P

Re:B18C1+low boost

get a t3/to4e youll get hella power at low boost, especially on a gsr. U should have enuf power to push da turbo. You dont wanna be on boost drivin on the freeway with the 14b do you?? Its too small.

Check dis out:

Its up to you and how much u wanna spend. This is just what i would do...
