B16b F.I. Q's

Finally have all the parts to my turbo setup, now I just need to build my engine up before I bolt on the boost. I did some looking around and didn't see a obvious answer to my question. The turbo I came across is a t3/t4 (specs: .57 t compressor wheel, .50 a/r compressor, .63 a/r turbine). I do know that will put out a fair amount of WHP. I would like to get my engine bored out and sleeved, as well as a set of low compression pitsons, but I'm not sure where to look to find these answers as to what type to get and how much to bore it out. I'm not looking to spend top dollar on this because it is a budget setup, but I would like some power without blowing the engine. Any info or links would be appreciated.

lol sleeving and internals doesnt really happen on a budget....id sell that b16b for a hefty chunk of change and take the cash to build up a sick, cheaper motor like an ls/v, gsr, or b16

Woops, forgot to mention, already have a b16 that this setup is going into...I want to get the work done to the b16.....

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

yea i got that...how are you on a budget if you got a b16b?....isnt that like 4500 bucks?...like i said before, if it was me, id sell it and use that extra cash to do a full build up on another b-series. Try www.raceeng.com for pistons and rods, they have a ton of ----

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

Budget in a sense....got the engine for $400 from a girl that didn't know what was wrong with it. Come to find out, nothing much was wrong with it at all. But anyway....thank you for the link

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

nice buy, you could turn a nice profit on that, or put down some good numbers. Whats the stock compression on that thing, you might have no problem with good fuel management and just stock internals, b-series stuff is pretty stout man.

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

stock cr on that thing is 10:4:1 I believe. I'm not sure how she did it but she broke a rod and bent another. The block and the head themselves however, are just fine. I did have those taken to a local shop and tested and it checked out ok. Completely baffles me as to how that happend but hey, works out for me. So as far as rods go atleast, I need some new ones. I just figured while I was replacing those, there was something better as far as pistons go, that isn't really expensive.

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

eagle rods and srp/je pistons are the cheapest or at least close....race engineering has a bunch of choices i think

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

would you suggest replacing the crankshaft or are they known to be pretty good stock?

ghettoturbo 03-30-2005 03:10 PM

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

yea no one really replaces the crank unless its fucked up, if the shop said its good, go with it

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

If you have money, jack knife and balance the crank.

98_autoex_boy 03-30-2005 04:40 PM

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

jack knife? not familiar with that term, what does that meen?

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

lol knife-edge...basically a race motor mod where they machine off parts of the counterweights, but i dont know much about it

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

i think i remember jeff saying something bad about knife-edging
dont quote me on that

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

its for letting the crank go thru the oil with less friction , but from what i have heard it prevents oil from cooling the crank

Yeah, what he said. I think theoldone.com has something written about this if you check the site

Deffinitly going with a set of SRP pistons but not sure what CR to go with. I was thinking the 9.0:1 and boring the engine out by 0.20 But I keep wondering if 8.5:1 would be better for the turbo I have and the 12-15 psi I would like to run. (Horrible with math and formulas which is why I ask your opinions lol)

Hard to believe some girl just happened to have a B16B. What car did it come out of? CTR motors aren't just everywhere with dumb girls driving them.

stolen perhaps,,?? i have never even personally seen a b16b in person...

You have any pictures of the motor like a close up block number shot?

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

Do appologize for the confusion...couldn't figure out why everyone was ignoring my questions and kept asking about if it was stolen. It is a b16a2....not sure why I put b16b other than I was thinking it wasn't the first model b16 (the a1). But just to clarify, it is an a2 not a b. Typo there :(

now lol

9.0 is just fine for a turbo, don't wanna go much below that for anything

C/R 9.0:1 will do you well.

So do I, not many people with the sense to buy a B16B turbo it, the stock CR is 11.5:1 and the stock cams make power to 10k rpm.

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

is this gonna be a daily driven street vehicle? If so, 9:1 is too damn low and when you do it you will see why.

B16Drag 04-10-2005 11:52 AM

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

9.0:1 is fine, but if you're scared do 9.5:1 whatever floats your boat. Just dont go into the 8's

You'll get a nicer torque curve with stock compression, atleast thats what I've been told...seems logical too.

i personally prefer wiseco pistons to anything else.

I've heard good things about CP pistons.

Re: B16b F.I. Q's

b16b's are overated dodo stains. buddy forked out the money for one. it was nice and all, but he yanked it out and got a b16a. if i wanted a mad jdm motor like that i would buy a ZC :P

but anyways. i dont know why you wanna sleeve it. a budget build and it doesn't seem like your goals are re sleeve worthy. just rock stock sleeves.
