B16A2 at the rollers(now with power graphs!!)

:'( went to the rollers yesterday and was very very very disapointed with the results!

200hp at the flywheel and 149lb/ft torque!

WTF?

Is this the normal for a B16A?

my setup is,

T3 .42, .48
ss autochrome manifold
450's and inline resistors
Apexi Vafc
2.25 exhaust from turbo back with a apexi N1 Muffler.

MY settings are

wide low
1k 42 1k 40
2k 36 2k 36
3k 30 3k 30
4k - 8k 42 4k - 8k 42

started off with 36 across the board on high and low, and got 187hp and 146lb

Im not sure where my timing is at, as he didnt check it, could this be my problem?

The boost gauge is showing 5pi all through the rev range so it cant be the turbo.

Please help as i have spent a lot of money to get this setup done and i dont want this to be the final result!

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

you're only running 5psi man! Can't expect huge gains from that. stock is 160crank hp and 112 ft/lbs @ the crank.

yours are at the wheels right?

200hp an 149lb at the crank!

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

really though man, 5 psi :-\ can't expect too much out of it, why don't you raise the boost, perhaps a bigger turbo? you can easily run 8-10 safely with your set up......

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

i would at least be at 8-10 psi, but that's just me. it would feel like a waste of time to build a turbo and only run 5psi.

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

200 hp at the crank is about right for 5 psi on a B16.
stock 160 hp 5 psi adds 40 hp...it's all good that's about 7.5 hp per pound take it to 10 psi and you'll get to 240-250 easy...I would use a 63/60 T3 turbo you will make more power with it

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

i have your exact same setup, except for Fuel managment i have a 12:1 FMU, same turbo size too, do you still have your cat on?

aron2063 12-17-2003 07:58 PM

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

im running 6.5 PSI with a test pipe and my car pulls strong all the way untill 8000 RPM, so its not the turbo, i dont have any numbers but if i had to guess would say im in the 220 HP range, my friend has a 99 eclipse GST running 17 PSI with 3" downpipe 3"cat and 3" cat back and i smoke him everytime even with another person besides me in my car and only him in his.

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

a T3 .42/.48??? WTF? That's wayyy too small for your B16a. Run at least a .48/.60 !!! maybe thats why... Small turbo, small gain...

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

what kind of "rollers" measure flywheel horsepower? you unbolted the tranny and bolted it up to an engine dyno or what?

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

So what did you make at the wheels? 160 ~ 170ish?

You still have a cat convertor? what size exhaust? & dp?

civicvtecb16a 12-18-2003 09:49 AM

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

140 at the wheels! :o thats what i was wondering, as this is only 10 up from stock.

2.25 exhaust from the turbo back to a apexi n1 straight though with no cat and no boxes.

gonna crank up the boost to 8 psi and see what happens! then if that doesnt give me the results i want then 10psi!

thanks for the advise guys, if the boost increase doesnt do its stuff then i will go for a bigger turbo.

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

it may have to do with the ve of a turbo (read in engine managemet), when you put a turbo on, you're actually taking away from the flow of air, and it takes about 4 psi, just to make it equal to what it was before you put the turbo on, so basically, yes, 5 psi on a turbo is only gonna be a little over stock........

140 at the wheels is NO WHERE NEAR 200 crank HP!! where did u get that number!

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

i was just going to say that, your numbers are all messed up. please post your dyno chart!

i havent got a scanner and my camera wont take pics in the dark because it is wank! I will wait ill it is light and try and get a photo.

i do have 18" wheels tho, would this make a differanse?

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

you need to get a bigger exhaust like 2.5 or 3 because my friend is running 6 and he went to the dyno and made 220whp running a t3 fmic 3 exhaust cat and muff too 2.5 down pipe and 255 fuel pump and a v-afc and the motor is stock b16

1/4 of an inch isnt going to give him an extra 80whp.. something else is wrong, more than likly the turbo is to small for the high reving B16.

Lets see the dyno chart, see whats going on.
A/F log would be nice too.

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

18's on a b16, man you should be happy to get 150 tq, especialy with that dinky turbo. oh and pushing more boost with that turbo will prolly not solve your problem, your prolly maxing out the turbo as it is.

Re:B16A2 at the rollers

Those numbers look about right when you actually look at your setup. At the end of the day you are only running 5psi on a what is a tiny trim turbo for the B16! Its crying out for more air!!!!!! ;D

Up the boost to around 8psi and add more fuel on the AFC to suit (stock internals will be fine at this level). After that I think you will be more happy with all your hard work. ;)

heres the graphs that you wanted, hope they mean something to you as they mean nothing to me, would someone be able to explain what they mean?

also sorry there is no a/f graphs as they didnt have a wideband.
